GDT 8/14/2013: Phillies @ Braves

So glad we have another 6 weeks for Beachy to get in shape. I still would not want him starting a playoff game right now.

That was a bad pitch, three fastballs in a row too. None of them very good either. He should've mixed in an off-speed there.

he missed his target by two feet.

They all miss on mistakes like that, but I still question three straight fastballs. I'd mixed in an off-speed before hand. That's what he had been doing before that a lot. Good start by Beachy though, only two runs in six innings.

This team is fun to watch when Heyward/Justin have it going on.

They are the key. If they are doing there thing in October I think we win the world series.

Why? Beachy looks good. What more do you want from him?

For one, I want his control to be a little better. Soemtimes walks aren't the best indicator of control. I see him missing his spots way too often.

I also want to see his velocity be consistently in the low 90's.

I'm fine with where he is RIGHT NOW. That doesn't mean I am comfortable with him in a postseason game yet.

Beachy's average fastball velocity this season is 90.6. Beachy's average fastball velocity in 2012 was 90.9. His velocity is fine.

I'd suspect that average velocity will go down after tonight.

Listen, I'm ecstatic he is doing this well. But having the faith in someone to start a postseason game is different. We gave him a big lead in his two good starts. Life is easier that way.
