Per Bowman's article, Will Aybar even last at short?

Braves1976

It's OVER 5,000!
I noted today that Bowman had an article "Braves mulling over options at shortstop" where he states:

"Erick Aybar faces the tough challenge of satisfying eyes that have been treated to Andrelton Simmons' defensive excellence over the past few years. But Aybar's struggle to consistently make routine plays through this season's first week has created reason to wonder how long the Braves can afford to keep him at shortstop.

The Braves might not make a rash decision this early in the season. But after watching Aybar struggle with his footwork and make a few errant throws to throws to first base through the first four games, they are at least contemplating making a change within the near future." He speculates in the piece about Castro being called up with Aybar being moved to second and possibly sending Jace Peterson down to AAA.

Personally, I'd just move Aybar to second and Peterson to his natural shortstop position for now as I believe Peterson would do OK there. Nothing special, just OK, which is better than Aybar at this point in his career.

That said, it is telling about how little value Aybar is going to have at the deadline given his weak bat and now also might not even last at short either. We screwed up not trading him when we could as I doubt anyone comes calling for him later at this rate. He is an overpaid replacement level player right now.

...looks like Aybar is the next player who is going to be bethancourted by the front office

It's good comedy going from how they portrayed Aybar in the Simmons trade, and how they overvalued him again when Cardinals had an opening at short, and now a week into the season "they are at least contemplating making a change within the near future."

well, one is a relatively washed up player and one was our top prospect that we let play maybe twice a week and decided to dump with little to no logic. Lol

That being said, call Castro up, leave Jace at second. Play the young guys. Jeez.

I like that Bowman is leaving open the possibility that the front office will make a rash decision this early in the year.

Only saving grace....last year they turned callaspo into winthrow and uribe. Then uribe and kj into gant and Whalen.

So maybe there is a sucker out there

Swanson and albies are upgrades now.... But u don't want to rush them and service time. I wouldn't let them up until roster expansion. Hopefully both are raking at double a and triple a at end of the year

Castro has skills, and a knack for clutch hitting. He never should have gone down this spring.
