Magic Number Predictions

2019 - Braves make the world series, pitching the bottom of the 8th inning in game 7 against the equally surprising foe, the Minnesota Twins... The Twins are up to bat with two guys on, two out... Fredi (the manager that never leaves) leaves All-Star Closer Vizcaino on the bench to support his extra large gut feeling of leaving the lefty (whomever) in to face Bryce Harper (who ditched the Nats)... BAM... 3-run homer... game over... and another meme of an Atlanta closer waiting to enter into a winnable game. Fredi gets a pat on the back and a hug.

Sorry guys, I just image the horror in the future.

If FredI somehow managed his way out of an NLDS defeat and to the world series he could be here forever.

End of May. Eddie takes his place. Chipper bench coach. Roger on notice.

I know Chipper said he does not want to put the uniform on everyday. I wonder if the Braves could convince him to step in as Bench Coach. Tell him it will only be for a few months and to help reinforce the "Brave's way"

Shanks in rare form today. He's convinced Fredi won't survive, just unsure of when.

Bring on Eddie Perez!!

Do you realize that in the span of a few hours you have said the Twins will sign Bryce Harper and Daniel Castro would make the perfect #2 hitter?

Not exactly comments that someone should make when criticizing someone's baseball IQ.

We've seen textbook bad managing through the start to the season. In other words, typical Frediocy.

This team has the talent of a 70 win team, but they've done enough to win at least four of the first seven. They've gotten themselves in position to win, only to see their clueless leader help them piss those games away.

Where on earth do you see that? The staff ERA is like 5, we're hitting .200, the bullpen has coughed up five games, Freddie Freeman is hitting .075 and protected in the lineup by Adonis Garcia and, once released from jail and reinstated, Hector Olivera. This team sucks hairy ass.

I mean yes, Fredi is dreadful, but where is the accountability for the front office that assembled this piece of garbage?

I hear Frank Wren is an idiot and the three Johns are geniuses. They are accountable to themselves, basically.

Save me the "we had to blow it up" stuff. No, we didn't. And it's going to be 5-7 years before the Braves are in the hunt again.

I'm not particularly bent about the team being bad. We're rebuilding, and, frankly, tanking this season. I expected that we'd suck. I really have a bad taste in my mouth at the FO's messaging, though. I felt like our collective intelligence—such as it is—was being insulted.

The other thing that bugs me is exactly WTF we're doing with Fredi at this point. I think they've telegraphed (with the one-year extension) that he's not going to be the steward of the new Baby Braves—at least, I hope they have. Why is he still in the dugout?

Scapegoat.

The earlier the better IMO. If you let him go and replace him with an interim manager like Eddie Perez or T.P. you give them basically a full 1 year try out to see how the team reacts. Then in the offseason you determine what your options are from inside and outside the organization. But if trying to go to the "Braves way" is the goal, then Eddie Perez or TP as the interim manager makes all the sense in the world.

Then fire Tosca along with Gonzalez and convince Chipper to take his spot.

Nonsense. A complete waste of time. They're not going to make a difference. This is still a team that will struggle to win 60 games. Why wreck a guy's career before it starts? Let Fredi take the hit.

I think the argument here is invalid. You don't fire the manager of a terribly constructed roster, thinking that the guy that replaces him will lead that same team to the playoffs. You fire the manager because of several reasons...

1. Performance over the past several years, including but not limited to several September collapses, failure to get past the first round of the playoffs, overall under performance with several decent rosters
2. Bad overall managing skills in key situations
3. A historic bad start to the season is enough to be the straw that breaks the camels back.

I don't see how having a guy like Eddie (or whoever for that matter) step in would wreck his career before it starts? He had great reviews from players while he managed in Winter Ball this past season. He is very respected in the organization by the players and other coaches. Just like the young guys coming up and getting some playing time, he would be getting his feet wet at the MLB level, which is a GOOD thing, not a bad thing. We have plenty of time to evaluate if he is the right man for the job or if we need to go outside the organization.

But one thing that is obvious. Fredi should not and cannot be the manager of the future. And once the Front Office realizes that, then there is ZERO reason to keep him as the lame duck,

Just about any team has the talent to win 70 games. Put another way, a lot of teams with talent every bit as bad or worse than this one have won 70 or more. That's not a very high bar to reach.

With Fredi in command they'll be lucky to win 60.

Scapegoat.

The more I've thought about it, the more I have arrived at this conclusion.

Fans are generally impatient and hungry for change. The eventual managerial change will sate some of that hunger. I have always figured they'd do it in the off-season and offer Fredi some other position within the organization.
