5/5 THURSDAY MINORS THREAD: Toussaint, Soroka in a.m. DH

I read an article that said Allard will likely start in June but that it will be at Danville. That's interesting, but hopefully they're just planning to have him there for 2-3 starts and then move him to Rome, assuming everything looks good.

good to know.. Yes, I really hope he can hit Rome at some point this year..

I found it interesting that Yepez was held back even though he did pretty well during his time in the Appy League last year. I suspect the reason is they want him to go back to playing third, which is being held down by Riley in Rome. Yepez might be a better prospect than Riley. He's a year younger.

I watched the Mississippi game tonight. I thought Ellis didn't have his best stuff but did a great job making it work until a two-out 0-2 change-up (third in a row after batter swung and missed on first two, one too many I'd say). Ellis ended up going 5.2, 4 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 5 K. I'd argue that the umps inconsistent and missed strike three call cost Ellis his last inning. But the ump had a tight zone all night while also being inconsistent at times both ways. Roney in the 9th got cheated on a missed strike the first walk and the second walk came about after what should've been strike three called to end it (even opposing announcers thought so, so I'm not blind lol). Regardless Roney got the next batter to pop out for a save and 3-2 win for Ellis and the M-Braves.

Swanson had another good game as stated above, homie looks like he knows what he's doing whether at the plate, in the field or running the bases. Kid has really impressed me, looks like a future All-Star in MLB to me. Astudillo had a good game, another CS for second game in a row (at a key time too) and 2-4 with an RBI. Hursh had 1.1 scoreless and has his ERA down to 3.38, worth noting because he started pretty bad this year. He has been good while pitching multiple innings for a good stretch and has only given up one run in his last 9 games. Not a bad turnaround, hopefully it continues. Kinman also had another scoreless 8th tonight. I like him and Roney a lot.

Every time I watch Swanson I wonder what D-backs GM Stewart was thinking including him in the Miller trade.

I still can't believe that trade happened. Blair is already pitching better in the majors than Miller is, and we also get Swanson and Inciarte. What the heck.

It seems he underrated them while overrating Miller at the same time.

Stewart and La Russa are obviously weirdos, but I think Coppy also played that situation perfectly. He watched them go after Fernandez an saw the package they were willing to give up, then when those talks stalled, he swooped in, convinced them Miller was just slightly less value than Fernandez, trimmed some of the deal and took a big part of the package. Once the D-Backs had talked themselves into giving up those players for a pitcher, it was easier to convince them to give up some of it for Miller.

That's the way I think it played out. Regardless, it was a massive boost to our prospects for competing in 2018.

I'd say Miami's "sky-high" asking price for Jose Fernandez helped us A LOT in pulling off that return. MLBTR reported: "The Marlins “discussed a deal” with Arizona that would have brought back Corbin, Swanson, Inciarte, Blair, and infielder Brandon Drury, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald writes. That deal only “collapsed” when Arizona struck its trade with the Braves, he says, and the talks could illustrate a real willingness to trade Fernandez."

Albies and Swanson have destroyed AA pitching. I know they're good, but is there a lack of big time pitching in our AA division?

but what else should we expect when this guy is his father??
