I'm looking at Lewis, Groome, Puk.

I really like Groome, the dude is a killer pitcher, or at least he looks to be one. BUT, I don't want to wait 3 (lower end) to 4 years for the guy to come up. We need talent sooner than later if we want to take advantage of our proverbial window.

Either we get Lewis with the number 3 pick or we get Groome, I don't like much more deliberation.

I'd love to get Groome but I really hope he goes #1 overall so it'll make it easier on us at 3 to take a college player and get them up quicker. Senzel, Lewis, or Puk would only take possibly 2 years to be ready.

Those are my thoughts as well. It's exciting with the possibility of Fried, Newcomb, and MAYBE (probably not) Allard up as well.

The Braves have already said they want a college bat. That pretty much narrows it down to Lewis, Ray and Senzel. I would not be happy with Ray and his platoon problems. I would prefer Lewis, but if the Reds take him I would be happy with Senzel. He projects to be what we were promised Olivera was.

Having said that, if Groome is there at 3 I would understand grabbing the best pitching prospect in the draft.

I'd be more than happy with Groome and Collins if we could somehow pull it off. I doubt it, but I like Zack. Dude can hit.

I'm with you cheff, I'd be pissed if we took Ray. Maybe last year with a 15 pick but sure not a #3. He's been playing a corner spot most of the time this year so his value goes down imo. If we go bat it has to be one of Lewis or Senzel. I'm warming up to Senzel bc he should be able to stick at 3b.

Unless I'm mistaken, Senzel's defense has improved so much he's started playing SS. So he should have no problem having the hands and quickness to stick at third.

The guy has a tremendous hit tool and a great eye at the plate. It's just a matter of power. If he's got enough thunder in his bat to hit 20+ a year, he'd be an awesome pick at 3 (assuming Lewis is gone). If he's going to hit 10-15 HRs a year like some project then he's not as exciting of a pick.

Still, a third base prospect with a very good chance to be a perennial .300 hitter with a high OBP is nothing to scoff at.

A Chipper with less power works for me.

The only thing that makes me okay with Senzel is the fact that we are going to have such a good international signing period and we are likely to have a 1-3 pick next year again... I just feel like he's only got one real tool right now and I have a hard time taking a one tool player at 3... I would rather have a bat, but would take Groome or Puk over Senzel if Lewis is gone. However... I really want Lewis, but don't think he makes it past the Reds.

If Senzel turns into Bill Mueller, well, that's not the most exciting thing in the world at the third spot, but there's a lot to be said for Bill Mueller. It's hard to get too terribly excited about the prospect of a Senzel pick- it's the draft equivalent of shrugging your shoulders. But in a league where you can't trade draft picks and move down, sometimes a shrug is the best you can do.

I am a little surprised and disappointed to see that Rutherford has apparently fallen out of the conversation. I was getting excited about him.

Hit tool is great, great eye at the plate, good defense at 3B, 21/22 on steals this year. his only downside is lack of power, which is tough since that's what we need in the system most. but his floor seems really high and he's slugging .593 right now, so it's not like he's Juan Pierre.

Personally, an infield of Senzel, Swanson, Albies, and Freeman is pretty exciting to me.

Just doesn't excite me that much... and I don't really take too much into account steals in college... I've never read he's exceptionally fast. His defense is good, not great. Like I said because of our situations elsewhere with the international stuff and next years draft, I'd be okay with him. But he's not really what we need. I'd even think about taking Rutherford over him. And slugging .593 in college is good but its not elite.
