Trade ideas

posted this in another thread (oops didn't see this one at the time) :

Teheran and Vizzy from Braves and Yohander Mendez from Rangers (their #10 prospect) to Yankees

Aroldis Chapman and Bud Norris to the Rangers

Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez and Lewis Brinson to the Braves

We get 2 corner OF types AND perhaps a future catcher , Yankees move Chapman and get future arms as well as a closer to allow them to also trade Andrew Miller for value, Rangers shore up their only real weakness with Chapman and a reborn Bud Norris. I think it's a good value trade all around

That trade would be horrible for us. Brinson has been hot garbage this year, and Judge hasn't been anything special and who knows if he can stick in the OF long term. We'd be trading for three guys who are high bust potential players. No way I give up Julio for that alone, much less Viz and Julio.

What about Nick Markakis to the Twins for their compensatory picks?

I'd do it. I am afraid we'll end up stuck with him like Aybar by waiting too long and then he declines and doesn't bounce back. We already missed out on trading him without paying anything most likely.

I don't know why the team with the worst record in baseball would be giving up picks for an old, past his prime outfielder.

I think the Twins are better than their record indicates and wonder if they'd be willing to take on some veterans to add to the mix for next year if nothing else.

Hmm so now the idea is to trade away young talented players. If the goal is to have some Minor league championships then I am all for it.

If they were contending, this is the type of trade the Twins would make. They won't do it this year.

so what you only want sure things? good luck with that.3 top 75 prospects seems like a fair trade to me when figuring expected excess value. If you think you are going to get another D-Backs type deal, nobody is that stupid.(and by stupid I don't mean you, I mean the D-Backs front office)

If I am trading someone like Julio, I want closer to a sure thing than those guys. Brinson has had to pretty much repeat every level to have success, and on top of that he has horrible contact skills and terrible K/BB ratios. Those are the types of players that usually bust hard. Judge has struggled badly two years in a row at AAA and his supposed power has never shown up really. Both players look like huge busts right now, that's the opposite of a sure thing. If we are trading Julio we need to get one or two solid prospects, otherwise we keep him.

If you look at Sanchez as the main piece as well as Judge and Brinson it's a fair deal. Teheran is not Chris Sale or anything, He's a 2-3 WAR arm with a nice contract, I don't see any way we can expect to get 3 bat prospects at C,3B and OF that project better than those 3. Heck Judge has an ISO of .188 right now, that isn't bad at all. nor is a wRC+ of 115. Brinson has had a rough time this year, but last OPS'd over 1.000 in his 8 games at AAA and over .830 at AA.

I see no reason to think that the excess value of those 3 guys would be less than Teheran and Vizcaino. True prospects are unknowns, but a rebuilding team has to acquire as many as possible to up the odds of hitting. I think those 3 guys represent that perfectly. Sure you could probably do a 1 for 1 with the Red Sox and MAYBE get Benitendi for him, but that's about all you would get. (and he's no guarantee either).

I just don't see any deal that could net us the #16, the #36 and the #76 prospects involving Teheran. (Heck, the other side would probably balk at the deal)

Apparently the Royals and the Phillies have been looking at Markakis... Via Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe

I would dump him on them so fast for wtvr they wanted to pay. He's going to end up below replacement by that last contract season.

I agree, I don't think Teheran would get Gallo in package, maybe both would get Gallo and Brinson.... but I'm still skeptical the Rangers would do that, even with Gallo's K rate issues. dat power is Stantonian.

Benitendi is about as close to a sure thing as you can get, guys who post .900+ OPS and walk more than they strike out almost never bust. Brinson on the other hand has been terrible the first time he hit A ball, the first time he hit A+, and now is struggling badly at AA. Combine that with a K/BB ratio over 3:1 and he's the type of prospect that generally busts badly.

You can quote their preseason rankings if you want, but Brinson and Judge will be dropping come the midseason reports, and Brinson himself will be lucky to be top 50. I'm not a fan of Sanchez at all, if he was an elite prospect the Yankees would have had him in their starting lineup a long time ago. His defense at catcher and his makeup have been questioned throughout his entire minor league career, our own Kiley McDaniel had him as a 45-50 grade guy as recently as the end of last year. That's not the sort of player I want headlining a deal for Julio. Both Judge and Sanchez probably have 50/50 shots of being 1B/DH types long term, I have zero interest in moving Julio for that. If we are moving Julio we need a definite high quality OF or C type in return, otherwise there is no point in trading.

So yes, I'd much prefer a Benitendi or Bregman straight up rather than 2-3 top 50-75 ranked guys.

Maybe send Markakis to Royals for two of their "older" prospects: Hunter Dozier 3B & Brett Eibner OF.

Both would probably be called up to ATL this season.

I think you are overrating Teheran. Plus putting too much stock in minor league stats vs scouting reports. I would rather have more options rather than less

I'd be happy to get anything for Neck if the other team pays his entire contract. They need to move him ASAP ,IMO, before the replacement level shows up for good and he has zero value.
