Vizcaino trade market?

If you say so homie. :)

Seriously though, you set that one up to where I couldn't pass up making that joke. Which obviously shows I am no Trump supporter but I do have friends that are, I just don't agree with them on politics.

My mother is a Trump voter. I have to be nice since she lets me live in her basement.

IF Viz has more value as a trade piece than a long term closer for the Braves, then he should be moved. Problem is, that is a subjective valuation. There are some, me included and maybe foremost, who think that having a closer of any type right now isn't of much value and, if he can bring back multiple long term pieces who fit long term needs and have better overall talent value, he should be traded. Even if you believe that he is a high end closer who will provide that value over the next 3 or so years (I don't), he still will increase dramatically in cost as a true competitive date approaches. As his service time increases and his cost increases and his FA date approaches, his value declines.

All one needs to do is look at the history of the return on trading closers throughout history. It's never been staggering.

Unless the closer is very good and under team control at favorable terms for a while. See Ken Giles (which a lot of this thread has been discussing). Also Kimbrel twice in the past year.

When you have to resort to message board spell check & posting definitions, you have entirely too much time on your hands. Most of my visits to this board are cursory during work time. So, there's not always spare time to check/edit posts before returning to what they're paying me to do.

Having said that, use of the term was appropriate in that instance. It did receive some thoughtful replies, but as a (former?) member of this community pointed out, there is a lot of groupthink here.

Knucksie sure has a dizzying intellect.

Since you seem to want to make it personal. Yeah, my MS says I'm pretty freaking smart.

My trusty fair value calculator says he is worth a prospect in the 50-75 range on Top 100 lists. Teheran is worth someone in the 10-25 range. That's fair value. Of course I want more than fair value.

I just don't see us getting that for Vizcaino. Teheran maybe.

The Kimbrel and Giles trades of the past year are odd. The return on Kimbrel was mainly hitters and the return on Giles was all pitchers. Only current top prospects in the deals were Manny Margot in the Kimbrel deal and Velazquez is the Giles deal. I get that both were volume/depth deals although the Padres may get two solid offensive contributors out of the Kimbrel move.

So where does that leave someone like Vizcaino? I'm tired of volume deals. I would like to think Vizcaino could net us a Top 100 prospect like O'Neill from Seattle, but the Mariners' system looks pretty bare and I doubt they are interested in moving him. Zunino? Interesting comeback this year, but I wouldn't do a one-for-one with him and then you're back to a volume deal and we land a couple more maybes. I'm sure the phones are working and if Vizcaino continues to look dominant, an offer will be forthcoming from a team in need. I just don't want to give the guy away.

Zunino is playing in an very hitter friendly league and park. I would not give much weight to his 173 PAs this year compared to his 1055 major league PAs. This is not to say I have no interest in him. But not to the point where he would be the main piece coming back in a trade for Vizcaino.

I think some of it has to do with timing as well. If the Braves were to go to Texas right now with a Viz and Grilli proposal for Brinson they might do it since they have their young outfielder(s) up right now in Mazara and Gallo and their pen has been horrible. If you wait until the trade deadline and Texas has weathered the first half and there are a number of other closers available to choose from then the leverage isn't as much.
