Jason Grilli Traded to Blue Jays

Trade makes a little sense if we aren't including cash. Saves about $2.62m for the rest of the year we can apply for the draft or international signings

Seems like we aren't really cash constrained given we took on Matusz' salary.

except we got something of value in return. We are taking their garbage prospect for us letting them use a MLB quality reliever. I think the Jays can cover the ~3 million owed to Grilled Cheese..

I sure hope we aren't picking up much of his salary, but whatever. We took a useless piece of our roster this year that isn't a part of our future and got something for him. Short of building a time machine end trading him before the Achilles injury last year, I see no better options.

I reckon the Braves were going to DFA Grilli after Simmons came back and worked a deal so they got something for him so the money is pretty much the same either way...

I guess... only reason this makes any sense $$$ wise

Grilli's value is about the same as Chacin's imo. Take that for what its worth.

Seriously? I don't see why you think so, Grilli is almost done and hasn't been good since his return. If not for the Braves paying his salary like they did I doubt they get anything in return. Not that the prospect they got seems to be much worth mentioning.

That said, I support this trade as it makes a ton of sense. It's just too bad we couldn't trade Grilli when he had some value before his injury. But he needed to go as he was taking a spot for better options.

The Dodgers just released Alex Guerrerro. I wonder if the Braves find a way to take a stab at him. The money is stacked against the odds, but you never know.

for a team in the Braves' position, taking on money is no big deal, it's not like they need to save it to buy a bat at the deadline or anything. the roster and 40 man spot is now free. sounds good to me

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe work a deal where we send them Neck, Vizcaino and Jenkins and we get Puig and Guererro or something. (total spur of the moment spitball) they clear him, we clear Neck's salary and they get rid of Puig's headaches.

I was looking at it more that they either do this or DFA him and pay the same without any return whatsoever. Not that the return seems like much, still beats DFAing and releasing him.

The Dodgers actually really need a solid starter. I wouldn't be surprised to see a deal with Neck, Perez and a minor league guy and we go that route. He's a headache, but I'd love to get Puig.
