International News, Rumor and Signing Thread

yes but 20 million is really 40 million.. plus they are in on 6 other guys. those won't be as expensive being from areas not named Cuba..

They were going to blow their budget before they traded Shields - my point is the extra $20+ million could easily allow them even more flexibility. I'm sure we'd be interested in picking up other players we haven't been linked to thus far if we weren't on the hook for Bourn and/or Swisher.

Since we went mainly pitching this draft I hope we blow the international hitters out of the water.

I just don't think these two are connected. Our draft picks will get minor league experience this month. The kids we sign July 2 aren't going to get any experience above GCL until 2018 at the absolute earliest.

Sooo not true! They just signed Pache and Cruz last year and they starting in the GCL this year. Plenty of IFA have signed and skipped the DSL and a few that we sign this year will do the same.

The only one who I think will get started pretty quickly provided there are no VISA issues... will be Maitan... he's got such an advanced appraoch already.

And that's basically exactly what he was saying. Even someone like Maitan will likely start in the GCL next year (2017), so we wouldn't see him above rookie ball until 2018 at the earliest. Basically the most advanced guys this year will be just like Pache and Cruz, rookie ball the year after they are signed (2017) and then A ball the following year (2018).

The Braves knew they were gonna sign several top hitters in the international signing period so I think they were just fine not going hitting bc of that. If Senzel fell to 3 then sure but he didn't. Maitan is pretty advanced for his age so I could see em being a little more aggressive with him.

I want one of:
Vladimir Gutierrez

And one of:
Lazzo
Ona

Plus our other guys.

We'd be spending way too much money. As the top pitcher and older and from Cuba, Gutierrez would ask for around $10 million. Lazarito/Ona would ask for around $5-7 million depending on if they think they're that good... That's around $16 million and we're suppose to spending as much as the Yankees ($17 million without penalties) so thats a total af around $60 million with penalites.. too much.

I could see us getting "the other guys" + maybe one of the players you mentioned, but I doubt 2.
