Alex Wood To DL

I don't think it would have mattered too much... It's not like they could have gotten Wentz with that pick as they wouldn't have had enough money to sign him

who knows... they might have taken him at 30 something and college senior at 40.. so yes they could have afforded him.

In order to take Wentz they needed top 10 money... so they would have had to sacrifice a lot elsewhere to do it.

Hell - it's not a guarantee that Braves will get him despite their reach at 3

no it is not a guarantee.. I think they will though...

but Pick #36 could have been Wentz and pick #40 some college senior that requires 100K. That would be more than enough to sign Wentz if he is looking for that 3 to 3.5 million range.

Nothing on this board is worth getting mad over.

Was just trying to move the Alex wood talk into the Alex wood thread.

It all good.

For reals man!! I saw no anger just trying to align the BS so when we actually do talk about INTERNATIONAL SIGNINGS, we won't have to wade through all the bull**** to have a conversation...

Shanks is telling people on his board that the Braves are about to start trading away international slot money for prospects. It seems like the reasoning is that, since we're already going over budget we might as well deal the slot money away. That doesn't sound like smart business. Someone please tell me what I'm missing.

I like your stick.. putting this in the Alex Wood thread...

well played

Alex Wood will undergo an elbow debridement Wednesday and miss the next eight weeks.
Wood was facing live hitters and on the verge of beginning a rehab assignment at last check, but now his absence -- which began May 31 -- will extend through at least mid-September. He could be done for the season. It's another major blow to the battered Los Angels rotation.

Certainly makes the Braves look smart for trying to unload Alex.

Depends on the prospects we get back. If they are good and all it costs us is money, why not?

Didn't have a problem unloading him. It was the Olivera thing.

Yep, I don't think anyone had any issues with moving Wood, it was what we moved him for that was the issue. Could have packaged Wood and Viz to the Astros for a nice little haul this past offseason most likely.

I don't think this strategy is as effective this year. There isn't a huge market for teams looking to pick up cap space since basically everyone is already in the penalty or going into the penalty.

First time I'd ever seen the word debridement. Was afraid to look it up on my work computer this afternoon.
