Cops gun down legal carrying citizen

About a half mile from my house on a street I drive every day. The suburbs of Roseville, Falcon Heights, and St. Anthony Park have kind of combined public safety efforts and Larpenteur is the border between St. Paul and Falcon Heights and Roseville so there are a lot of traffic stops on the street (mostly because of a couple of speed traps). I think the big problem is that the suburban police force has a lot of rookies on it (along with a couple of really solid veterans that I know) and with the area getting a much more urban feel, these guys simply aren't mentally and psychologically prepared for duty. What I think we saw here was flat-out fear of the black man.

Murders are bad. I'll wait for the facts to come in on these shootings before I comment on them specifically, because in virtually all of these shootings the original story changes significantly as time goes on.

I will say that it is pure myth this thought that cops are just going around shooting innocent black people. Obama today said that these shootings are not isolated. That is patently false. The chance of a black person being shot by a cop is incredibly low. The chance of an innocent black person being shot by a cop is even lower than that.

Blacks make up 12 -13% of the population and make up about 20ish% of police shootings. There's a discrepancy there obviously. But it's also important to point out that blacks make up about 40% of violent crime despite only being 12-13% of the population. That fact easily explains that discrepancy.

So, bottom line is murder is bad, but there is no systematic racism and these are absolutely isolated events.

*40% of violent convictions.

The movement you support will only lead to more black Americans being murdered. You're a smart guy. Think about what I'm saying. I respect the movement to highlight terrible policeman, but to go beyond that is irresponsible.

So DWB, et al., is just something we've invented?

I hate cops... but the system has been designed to push them into doing things like this. The war on drugs is expensive, and cops need to generate revenue... who are the easiest targets? Poor people, minorities, people who can't get lawyers and will plead guilty.

The system is ****ed up.

already seeing media dragging his name through the mud to justify the shooting... As if having a criminal record is enough justification for killing someone

I didn't think this guy had a record. Only the one in Louisiana

Resisting arrest, domestic violence, and gun charges kinda of say he isn't a good guy and cops should be alert when trying to arrest him.

Of course, the cops didn't even know who he was when they shot him. No that any of that should make it okay for them to shoot first...
