We Could Be A Dynasty If We Play This Right.

1. Keep Julio unless the Red Sox offer Moncada and Benintendi.

2. Continue to suck this year and draft Tanner Houck or Hunter Greene at 1-1 in June 2017.

3. Call up Dansby and Ozzie to start at SS and 2B on Opening Day 2017.

4. Continue to suck next year (outside of Freddie, Dansby, and Ozzie, and the young pitching)

We would be competitive starting Opening Day 2018 with the best farm in baseball and the number 1 pick in the upcoming draft (where we should take Beer)

Opening Day 2018 Lineup (it would compete for playoff spot)

C- Brett Cumberland
1B- Freddie Freeman
2B- Ozzie Albies
SS- Dansby Swanson
3B- Rio Ruiz ?
LF- Mallex Smith
CF- Ender Inciarte
RF- big ticket free agent

SP- Julio Teheran
SP- Matt Wisler
SP- Mike Foltynewicz
SP- Tyrell Jenkins
SP- Aaron Blair, Sean Newcomb, Max Fried (several options here)

Minors

number 1 in 2017 (Houck or Greene)
number 1 in 2018 (Beer)

I think if you want to suck you put them in AAA for a while so you get a extra year of service.

There's definitely a chance for us to build a really good, longterm winner. But the #1 pick in 2018 is out of the question unless things completely collapse...in which case it will be a new FO making the pick.

Unless they both torch AAA this year, I think I'd be looking at that service time / extra year of control issue very hard.

Swanson is the face, but I'd say Albies seems a lot closer if anything. But the position switch might be good enough reason to leave him down.

Even if they touch AAA....would they not leave them down? I think they are thinking long term.

Actually, I tend to agree with you. I probably would try and get by with Peterson at 2B and a SS pickup for the first half of 2017, if I were doing it.

But, I think the Front Office might indeed feel too much pressure to break camp with them if they have proven themselves at AAA.

Tanking is losing on purpose. The Braves are simply too stupid to tank. They are losing games because the front office doesn't know any better. You guys are giving them too much credit.

Agree with your general premise in principle, but take a look at your your roster again:

Clubs have so much turnover, even during the season. Some of those players will not be Braves at this time next year, let alone in 2018. Off the top my head, as good as an acquisition Inciarte was, it's difficult seeing him as being part of their long-term plans. Thinking that there will be no changes in roster construction, besides on FA signing in RF, is just impractical. Part of the strategy for stockpiling the young arms is to utilize surplus as trade bait to feel positional needs

A potential dynasty is reaching, and i'd be very surprised if we picked #1 in 17 or 18.

I suppose you're right... if every single high draft pick and every single prospect works out and reaches their ceilings. The likelihood of that happening is pretty much nill.

I don't see Inciarte and Mallex both being in the starting lineup in 2018.

I would think one or the other will be traded.

Two light power center fielders doesn't really work unless one is the fourth outfielder.

Not sure the demand right now but moving inciarte for a nice prospect with power who might be on a schedule with the rest of the emerging braves would be a good move. Or for a solid veteran starting pitcher on reasonable contract.

I really want to find a package that solves a couple of problems though.

3b of immediate future, catcher of future, corner outfielder of future seem to be the major needs.

I told my friends in 1989 or 1990 (13 or 14 years old) that the Braves would be a Dynasty in the 90's. They all laughed at me when I told them that, lol. The problem is the Braves payroll has been the same since like 2001. A dynasty won't happen unless they stop being cheap.
