State of the Braves Part II

Yeah, that was a JS style arrogant kind of answer to the procedural errors. It's not like he hasn't already chosen the wrong guy in trade with Olivera and signed the wrong free agent in Nick.

Technically Hart made those moves. Which is how they would spin it.

I don't think he was saying he hasn't made those errors, just that he would rather make the 'clerical' errors over 'personnel' errors.. but I still think he should just say, I screwed up and things like that shouldn't happen, but sometimes do and I will grow from them. don't try to slight of hand me..you are not doing a magic trick, so I don't need you to tell me to look over there.

My long-term evaluation of Coppy will be based solely on results, but I must say I H-A-T-E the way he communicates. I'd have assumed he'd do better via email than on camera, but damn . . . in that second part of the interview he somehow managed to come across as a little bit defensive, a little bit arrogant, a little bit patronizing, and a lot bit of a suckup to his bosses.

I honestly don't see the problem with the replies... I thought it was a fine interview. He took full responsibility for the procedural errors and said all the right things about Olivera.

I thought his interview with Jonah Keri was really good and his #askcoppy sessions are generally fun. Its definitely a contrast between the corporate puppet he has to become for these Q&A's.

These Q&A's are pretty hard to approach from a PR standpoint. How do you balance being honest and transparent with being judicial and fair to your employees? If he comes out and says "we have made some mistakes in free agency that we need to be better at moving forward", then that immediately points to Markakis. If he says anything about the Josh Anthony situation (which we don't know the full story) then he's throwing his subordinate under the bus (Bridges). If he says the miscalculation was a result of the botched contract revocation, then he's going to further alienate the minor league player that's currently in our system.

I think he probably could have addressed those questions better than he did, but it's a tad bit nit picky and generally unfair, IMO.

I was not a fan of this second part and you know I am a Posi-Brave... I just felt the procedural answer was a bit hey look over there.. and I hated the HO answer. Why make it public that you tried to trade him (I know that already was leaked).. I would have spun it as he was mentioned in a few trades but nothing materialized. I think now he won't be back with this team... even in the minors.. I really don't like the thought of just cutting him personally.

I loved the HO answer. The Braves should have no place on their team for men who hit women. I'm personally have no interest in seeing and / or hearing about HO ever again.

I actually liked the directness about HO. He already has no value, and the Braves are taking a stand. His value is not lower now than it was before he said that. Unless they can find someone to take at least a little bit of his contract as part of another deal, then cutting him is the only real option, and it was before Coppy said what he did.

I disagree.. we are built on second chances and since we have ZERO details of what really happened, I am inclined to give that second chance. He served his penalty agreed upon by the league.. now let him start the rehab and see if this makes him a better person.

I love the HO answer... what he did was despicable and I don't want him anywhere on the team. I'm glad Coppy was transparent that he thinks that also. The procedural answer started well, but I can see how the second part the answer could sound defensive or an excuse.

Agree to disagree on this one I guess

Given how quickly the sentencing was levied and how direct Coppy was when talking about HO, I have a fair idea of what happened. HO is allowed to have a second chance, but the Braves don't have to be the one to extend him one.

But we will be paying him while someone else does. Personally, if you are that hard up for punishment.. burry his ass in the minors until the Players association tells you, you can't anymore.
