MLBTradeRumors Atlanta Braves Mentions

Not a Braves specifc menion but one of the teams that can give us what we want in return for JT.

Astros GM Jeff Luhnow says that he expects to be busy over the coming weeks, as MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart writes. But that doesn’t mean the club will be pushing the action; Luhnow says “there’s no real sense of urgency on our part necessarily.” Rather, he explained, “as teams pick up the pace, we’re certainly going to be involved in the conversations.” It’s possible to imagine Houston targeting a starter, as McTaggart notes, but Luhnow says that he’d only be interested in a certain kind of arm. The ’Stros would be looking at starters who are not only healthy and effective at present, but who are capable of slotting into the team’s hopeful post-season rotation.

So... Teheran is a perfect guy.

COME ON BREGMAN!

How could you possibly think the Markakis signing was a good one? He's already dreadful in year two and there's 2 more to go

READ you insufferable *rick. He never said "good" signing - he said "good at-value signing".

Markakis has been paid roughly $17 million to this point. As of today he's provided 2.2 WAR.

According to the WAR god everyone loves to reference, Markakis has been PAID for almost exactly what he's PRODUCED - 2.2 WAR x $8 million = $17.6 million.

That's about as "at-value" as it gets.

You are the most pompous insufferable ass I've ever seen on the internet.

If you want to cut the contract off today, then fine. But he's got 2+ years left.

He's on pace for a half a WAR this year (worth $4M).

At best, he's a replacement player going forward. Even if he declines no further than he already has, he will be an albatross for the next two years.

I agree that Neck can not live up to his contract. He hit well last year, but that is all he did. One tool guys don't make 11 million a year. We have to trade him as soon as possible. But I don't think that will be possible without eating most or all of his contract or taking a equally bad contract.

From Ken Rosenthal:

"*The Astros are looking for a left-handed reliever, and they've touched base with the Braves about Hunter Cervenka as a possible fallback option, sources said.

The Braves, who continue to insist that they will hold right-hander Julio Teheran, are drawing interest in controllable pieces such as Cervenka and fellow left-handed relievers Ian Krol and Dario Alvarez, plus right-handed starter Lucas Harrell.

Other Braves who could be on the move: Potential free agents such as infielder Gordon Beckham and outfielder Jeff Francouer and right-handed reliever Jim Johnson

The trio of Krol, Cervenka and Alvarez represent some potentially valuable trade chips given their remaining years of contractual control. I'd be ok with trading one of them and we should be able to get a decent return.

It would be appreciated if you would actually read every word in a sentence that you have issue with.

I feel the same way. Of those three, I have the most doubts about Cervenka, but if he's a LOOGY only, he could net us something. I think both Krol and Alvarez have higher ceilings.

I still think Markakis will be gone at some point. I don't think there is as much hurry on him from either end because I'd guess he'll clear waivers for an August deal. Could help the right team.

The best strategy would be to do a couple of package deals. I'd throw Aybar with us eating the remainder of his contract in there as well. Do a couple of 3 for 1 deals and get someone worthy.

We will have to either eat contract or give him away, but I think on the right team, he could contribute.

Or make a trade for another veteran with low or negative surplus value. The two trades I have in mind are: Markakis plus someone like Ellis for McCann, or Markakis plus someone like Ellis for Kemp and Norris. Both would net us a catcher, a position where we have a need in 2017 and beyond.

I'm thinking more something like Markakis to Seattle for someone like Zunino. They have Aoki, so maybe Markakis doesn't fit there, but that's the level of deal I was pondering.

I'm hoping for more, but if Zunino is the best we can get I'd settle for him.

I'm not seeing why the Mariners would even give up Zunino for him, Zunino has produced almost as much value in 3 games as Markakis has the entire year. I'd be estatic if we could get Zunino, he seems like he has turned a corner and finally tapped into his talent.

If we could get Zunino for Markakis, its a no brainer, IMO... Zunino has all the talent in the world and has shown some signs of realizing some of that talent

Aybar and Francoeur are essentially replacement level players. We'll be lucky if we are able to do as well with them as we did with Jonny Gomes last year.

The lefty relievers have value. They have been effective and are under contractual control for a while. Not sure how strong the market is for their type of services, however.
