I love how the Braves sign and make trades for 50 guys in hopes one has trade value at the deadline and NONE do....they all under perform. Even you all our young value guys get hurt. The Yankees try with one guy and win big...gah...I fricken hate them.

Crazy thing is they didnt even trade much for Chapman now they're about to get a great deal for him smh

Looks like Torres and Warren, and two more for Chapman, thats a huge overpay unless it comes with an extension.

I think the Cubs are a special circumstance. On the surface it's an overpay for a shot at a World Series but we are talking about a team that hasn't won since before the Titanic was built and hasn't been to the World Series since World War II ended. Late-inning relief is their main weakness and they've got a good system. If I'm a Cubs fan, this is well worth it.

We probably should have gotten even more for Kimbrel.

We definitely should have, that was clear as soon as the Padres traded him a year later with even less value than he had when we had him. We also blew it evaluating Wisler as a pitcher IMO. I know many think he has room for growth and potential, but unless he dramatically improves his secondary stuff he's nothing more than a 4/5 starter, and that was the case when we traded for him.

I agree actually, they can make games 6 innings with him, and the other options with Rondon, Wood, Nathan, Montgomery etc.

The thing is... now the Cubs just look lethal... and the trade isn't hurting the MLB club at all really. Plus they are still going to have a great farm system.

I agree... but we also have to remember that things like clearing Upton may have been what allowed us to buy Touki, and other financial deals we've done.

Perhaps, but we also made the Johnson trade with the Indians in order to load up our payroll for this year rather than spreading it out. I think we could have made those deals regardless. And if we somehow weren't able to, that would just point back to another bad move we made, signing Markakis in the first place.

It gets worse for the Cubs . . .

Cant see how Theo would give up that much without an extension in place as well.

But they still have the likes of Contreras, Rizzo, Russell, Bryant, Baez, Almora, Schwarber, Heyward, Eloy, etc. They'll be ok.

Position of strength.
