Trade Deadline: What are you willing to do?

I'm pretty sure that there are some frequent posters who would be perfectly content if we had a top-three farm system and a fourth-place MLB club every season.

Yeah: A few on the board would actually prefer finishing last every year and having a top Farm.

Think of the awesome draft picks we could have every year.

Ha.

I'm only fine with losing this season since it was a lost cause from the start. The roster constructed was never to be taken seriously at the thought of actually competing for the playoffs

Next year though we should be competing for a wild card spot if our young guns are here and we spend some extra money for the new stadium

Well, you can't spell "success" without one of the letters in "potential".

Braves scouting Mets' A-ball CF prospect Desmond Lindsay? 53rd overall pick of 2015 draft. Mets have reportedly had interest in Cervenka and Withrow.

What gives you that idea?

My opinion on Archer has far more to do with my thoughts on Archer than my thoughts on prospects.

I think Archer is a good SP. I don't think he's the ace he's made out to be. I'll take Newcomb, Soroka, and Wisler over what amounts to 4 years (after next year, in which we won't truly compete) of Archer.

Man I'd take Linsday all day long for relievers. Any reason why he hasn't played much this year? Has he been injured. Dude has some major raw talent.

Was just reading this article on him from a month ago after reading Dak's post, sounds like it just may due to him being so raw rather than injury.

And yeah, I'd take a raw 2nd round OF prospect all day for decent relievers like Cervenka and WIthrow.

Apparently he had nagging injuries in extended ST and then had a more serious hamstring injury and is now just getting back

Seems like an amazingly good return for Cervenka and Withrow. I'd guess Vizcaino at least would have to be in this deal for the #5 prospect in the org?

I think it would obviously be great return for Cervenka and Withrow.

Julio is now 8th for ERA in MLB. That's on a team that is the worst in MLB, with average at best defense behind him. Not bad for a #2 starter. Sale is 23rd and Archer is not in the top 50 in ERA. That is all.

This is from the ARI / MIL game last night . . .

I am more and more warming to Lucroy if we don't have to gut the system. He's very athletic for a catcher and should have more longevity. He also doesn't have much mileage on those knees at this point.

Lucroy's current deal takes him through next year, his age 31 season. I'd be hesitant to give any catcher a five year deal covering their age 32-36 seasons.

Me either, but could you throw away his contract and give him more up front, and lessen the years? As in pay him 75 Mill over 5 years, starting now rather than him getting 5\85 at age 32?

This is the correct answer. A Lucroy trade only makes sense if he was the missing piece for a contender. That's not us.

Yes you can restructure deals unless it was changed in a recent CBA. Chipper did this over the last two years of an existing contract where he made less those two than he was originally going to make but the contract was extended out so he made more overall.
