Trade Deadline: What are you willing to do?

You claimed Lucroy would immediately be the best bat in the lineup, GF responded by saying Freddie was a better hitter. And now you posted stats that show Freddie is the better hitter, come on man.

Those stats show that they are about the same. So I will revise my statement. He immediately becomes one of the best 2 hitters in the lineup. We desperately need someone to even come close to Freeman at this point... And he's about the same production wise.

For right now. On a team that's not going anywhere.

So he may have fallen off in the pitch framing department this year but has most certainly been in the argument for best pitch framer in his career. I said "arguably" and these articles certainly support my stance that there's an argument to be made.

As far as him being better than Freeman right now:

Freeman .125 wRC+ 2.4 WAR
Lucroy .122 wRC+ 2.8 WAR

Failing to see how Freeman is clearly better right now

The first article was from 2014 and I don't see where it says Lucroy is the best pitch framer in the game. A) His 2015 season was worse. B) It just says he's better at pitch framing than Posey and Molina. C) Its from 2014 and Lucroy hasn't quite been as good as before defensively or offensively. The article is basically using a career year to state that Lucroy is the best catcher in the game.

I don't know what the point of the second article is? To prove that Lucroy is a good player? Who disputes that?

Your last point shows proof that Freeman is a better hitter right now. Plus, Freeman is 26 while Lucroy is 30.

Also last year put up 133 wRC+ and 141 the year prior and 150 the year prior.

And 2015 was a campaign marred by injuries... Which is when your article was written.

And that's where we disagree. Add Lucroy and 2-4 names on the FA market and I think we are a competitor. And I don't think it's a stretch to see it

Braves will need to improve by over 30 games next year just to be around .500. That's asking a lot in one off season.

Exactly. And I can't see the Braves spending $50-100M per year and Lucroy PLUS 4 FA just so they can say 2017 is competitive. I certainly hope not, because that way leads to franchise purgatory.

30 wins over 5 spots and pitching. So assume the pitching improves by 5 wins, the position players would have to improve by 5 wins a piece?

So to have a contending team, you have to have every position playing 3-6 WAR baseball? I'm sure there are plenty of teams out performing their WAR contending. Just one reason why you can't just rely on WAR for performance.

No. But I don't think you realize just how bad this team is. They need a lot of help just to be a .500 team. Whether that's internal from improvements/callups or external via trades or FA. Can it be done? Yes. But a lot needs to happen and and it all has to work out. So again, that's asking....a lot.

Beyond that.. 500 ain't good enough to get us in the playoffs...

We shouldn't be blowing our financial flexibility at the hope of getting back to .500

I fully realize how bad this team is. We have a ton of money available... And if they traded for Lucroy now, it would signal to me that they are planning on spending quite a bit.

We would have the potential to compete for 3-5 years and then the young talent is ready

Which I think would be a mistake because throwing a bunch of money at FA's generally never work.

Well don't worry... I don't think Coppy is going to do anything based on what's posted on this board. Whatever he does I will give it a chance. He has more experience than all of us combined.

Just looking at past teams who tried to rush a rebuild with trades/FA signing....usually didn't work out.
