I disagree with some of MLB.com's new ranking of our top 30 today, and I get that some people seem to think we spend too much time talking about and drooling over our prospects, but the depth of legitimate talent we've assembled is beginning to border on unprecedented.

I mean, Ronald Acuna is #18, Dustin Peterson is #19. Touki Toussaint is #10, Max Fried #11. Rob Whalen, who is now torching AAA at age 22, is outside the top 20. Braxton Davidson is #25.

This is a ridiculous top 30, and it doesn't even include the following: AJ Minter, Derian Cruz, Christian Pache, Abrahan Gutierrez, Bryse Wilson, Brett Cumberland, Isranel Wilson, Juan Yepez, Josh Graham...

Again, I disagree strongly with some of the rankings, but the fact that you can make such a strong top 30 that doesn't even include the guys listed above, you know you're rolling in it.

Eh, I wouldn't be shocked if Dansby turned it on at some point and basically got himself to that level.

And while it's true that we don't have anyone that you think of as a truly elite prospect, we absolutely have guys that could get themselves there eventually. That's what's so exciting about so much high-ceiling depth. Most of it is pitching, but still...Newcomb, Touki, Allard, Soroka, Anderson, Wentz, even Fried...those guys have that ability.

I mean, here are the ages of our top 13:
1: 22
2: 19
3: 23
4: 18
5: 18
6: 18
7: 18
8: 16
9: 21
10: 20
11: 22
12: 18
13: 19

There is a ton of upside there.
 
Whalen, Gant, Acuna and Peterson are too low. Ruiz, Bird, Ellis, Herbert and Banuelos are too high or shouldn't even be on the list. Cruz, Weigel and Minter should be on the list.

I agree with most of this. I didn't mean to pick the list apart, like I said, there's plenty I disagree with. Just an overall comment on the depth we have.

I agree the farm system is very very deep in talent. I think the list by mlb.com is pretty solid for the most part. I've been a Braves fan since 1984 and haven't been this excited about the minor leagues since 1990 and 1991.

The disagreements are largely placement. In order to get all of the good prospects on the list, we would have to have a top 40. Our top 40 would be on most teams top 20-30.
 
Bregman is rated #1 with Swanson #5 on MLB Pipeline's list, and both have been given 65 overall grades. So, I would say we have at least one prospect that is close to Bregman.
 
Ridiculous is Gant, Smith, Justice, Glavine, Smoltz, Avery, Stanton, McMichael. Chipper, Blauser, Klesko, Javy. Nieves, Torrasco, Schmidt, Houston. Andruw, Millwood, Rocker, Chen, Odalis. Furcal, Giles, Spooneybarger,Marquis, Betemit, Marte, LaRoche. Wainwright, McCann, Franceaur, Heyward, Freeman, Simmons, Hsnsen, Kimbrel, Venters.

Look at all that talent that we graduated throughout the years. We have no one, and I mean no one, that could hold the jock straps on 90% of that list.

Agree with everything here but Herbert and Ruiz. They are, like Peterson, among the youngest in the league at their positions and playing at a solid level. Herbert has a ton more upside than Cumberland as a catcher and Ruiz has battled through a tough slump.

Anyone who has seen Minter pitcher -- or talked to anyone who has seen him -- you would have him prominent on this list. I think he'll be in Atlanta by the end of the year.

Janus is another guy you didn't mention that should be here ahead of some of the younger guys.

Herbert missed an entire year due to injury and hasn't hit at all this year, I'm not sure how you can call him solid, and I think he's hurt again.

I think given our depth he could fall out.

Not Crazy about Janas. I don't think he'll be more than an average reliever. Poor strikeout rates in his minor league career
