Olivera traded for Kemp

LMAO this is a compounded Failure.

So we traded at this point Wood, PEraza, Johnson for 3 months, and Avilan for a year of **** production from Olivera, Paco Rodriguez, Zachary BIrd and the right to pay Matt Kemp around 30M over the next 3 years.

I hate that trade even more than originally.

Yeah. The whole point of getting HO was to get a quality MLB bat for way below market value. When that contract turned into a sunk cost the trade became unbearably bad.

Says you. I see a guy who can hit the ball out of the ballpark. I don't give a crap about his artificially low WAR because of his "bad" defense (I would, however, like to see him start walking again). He catches what he gets to. He makes Freddie better, takes pressure off him and others, lengthens the lineup nicely.

This is a deal i don't want to parse too closely. Sure he's overpaid. Sure, he's not what he used to be. He's a good player for this team right now.

Bad defense and a sub 300 OBP but with power describes players like Uggla. You know who else catches what they get to? Nick Markakis,

Yup. Sad part is that PEraza was an important piece of getting for getting Todd Frazier, and actually good 3B.

Yah not quite a 30 homer player though. And Kemp is an .800 OPS player outside of the pitchers paradise...

And Uggla? Really? I haven't seen Kemp bat under .220 yet

We got Wentz in the deal, who looks like a stud in the making.

It depends on where Kemp plays. If he's in RF then I agree, he's a butcher. Defense in LF is practically irrelevant - especially if he's paired with Smith in CF and Inciarte in RF. And yes, I do remember Evan Gattis.

I don't understand how defense in RF could be important but LF is irrelevant.

I'm excited about Wentz but kinda hard to call a rookie ball player a stud in the making. If every player to dominate the GCL were a stud every MLB team would be a contender

Also lets address where is Kemp gonna play? Mallex is out now, but he'll be back. So what happens to Markakis or Inciarte? Someone has to go to make room.

It's not greatly important in either, to be honest. My opinion only, of course.

A team as power starved as the Braves can afford to give up a little defense in a less-than-critical position.

I don't love the deal, but the Braves are better with Matt Kemp in LF and without Olivera on the roster. My fear is that in a year or so we end up having to give away a decent to good player in order to get someone to take him off our hands à la Bossman Junior. On the other hand the Braves will be free and clear of the dead salary from this chain of trades by the end of 2019, as opposed to still having Olivera on the books through 2021.

Considering Braves get $10.5 from #Padres to offset Kemp's $64.5M deal,and subtract Olivera's $28.5M, #Braves paying 8.5M per year for Kemp

Need more sources, but this appears to confirm $31.5m

$10m per year for Kemp makes this pretty decisively a loss for the Braves. Not a big loss, but it is definitely a win for SD. They have been winning their trades lately, and Olivera being a scumbag is likely why the Padres didn't send more cash with Kemp.

Kemp at least has a chance to improve. Olivera might not ever wear a Padres uniform, minor or major league.
