2016 Trade Deadline Rumors and Moves

Hmm, maybe, just maybe, the other teams Coppy was talking to just didn't come to an agreement?

Some of you are acting like the Braves didn't even try.

A good excuse if the Braves only had one piece to move. But, essentially the entire team should have been on the block. Given that, they should have tripped, fallen over and landed in a deal.

They need to put the fiddle down. Rome is burning.

They completely wasted a sellers market at a time that it's clear that they should be selling.

I am going to say this then duck....

I suspect Coppy was sending a message to teams that he will not cave on substandard offers. A negotiating strategy for another day.

And what would have those guys netted the Braves? Probably not much of anyone who would make an impact. Maybe Johnson could have gotten perhaps a team's top 10 prospect, and even that is questionable. If Coppy couldn't get what he wanted from a team, then I don't blame him not making a deal. Plus, let's wait until August 31st and see what happens. There will still be deals done.

Plus again, I'm not going to criticize the Braves after getting a good prospect from the Rangers for two guys that were signed off the scrap heap after the season started and also getting rid of Olivera.

I don't see Johnson getting through waivers. Some team will claim him to prevent a team they might see in the playoffs from getting him. We could work out a deal with the claiming team but you have very little leverage in that situation.

This feels like a misplay by Coppy. I don't buy for a second the stuff about wanting to finish the season strong. I just think he read the situation wrong. It's not a huge deal as we weren't going to get a blue chipper for Johnson but it's not something I like seeing.

Cant say i get not trading Johnson.

Rangers getting Lucroy Beltran and a solid RP and get to keep Mazara, Profar, Gallo, thats impressive.

Biggest winners to me are the Rangers and Yankees. I still wonder a bit about Texas' rotation, but if Darvsh comes back strong, they may very well be OK. Their offense is very strong now. Maybe the best offense in the A.L. Yankees added some good prospects, which they have needed to do for a long while.

Biggest loser to me is the Dodgers. Nobody of real big impact added, especially to a rotation which is pretty questionable right now. Also, not too sure about the Giants. Two top prospects for a reliever and trading away Matt Duffy.

Keeping Johnson is just bizarre. Even if you give him away for a low level prospect, who cares?! What does keeping him possibly accomplish for us?

He keeps us from looking "stupid" (as someone suggested earlier) like we do for giving Grilli away too early.

this is a big mistake. The mistake is trying to be good.

I do not get why Coppy keeps saying he wants to do better and the first pick is not the goal. We've sucked for 2/3 of the season. Just suck the next 1/3 and then try to make the team better in the winter.

There is no reason JJ should be on this team with the prices relievers were going for this market. Frenchy being on this team for anything is a joke. Not getting in as the third team on a deal is bad.

the last thing I want to do is win a bunch of meaningless games with an old roster and go to the 5th-7th pick.

This is the worst team in all of baseball. They have very little to offer. We have one bat that any team would be interested in acquiring. We have 1 starter that any team would be interested in acquiring. Our bullpen is filled with guys that are JAGs that woudln't fetch much of anything. All the guys in the pen would obtained in the bottom barrel discount rack.

Does your crystal ball show us good enough to get the 5th-7th pick? I still see us as the leader in the worst record sweepstakes. Just not that big of deal.

The Indians are my favorites. They have above average hitters up and down the order except for catcher. There starters can match up with anyone. Bullpen got huge upgrade with Miller. Lucroy did make a lot of sense for them though.

I'm surprised Johnson was not traded.

If we place Markakis on waivers and end up working out a trade with another team could we add Johnson to that deal without him having to go through waivers as well?
