You get two FA signings and as many call-ups as you want; 2017 Lineup - Go

Sign Justin Turner @ 3/45

Sign Jon Niese to 1 year deal at 9 million with a mutual 2nd year option (500k buyout)

3-4 Other minor FA signings for bench/BP depth.

Acquire McCann and cash from Yankees for Mauricio Cabrera.

Trade Nick Markakis + 5 million to Orioles for Ubaldo Jiminez

Bring up Swanson to start the year. Bring up Albies in late April/May.

Line-up:

Mallex Smith

Swanson

Freddie

Kemp

McCann

Turner

Jace (until Albies is called up)

Ender

Pitcher

Rotation:

JT

Wisler

Folty

Niese

Ubaldo/any prospect who beats out Ublaldo

I think that's a solid offense that can be league average. Rotation could be good or could be very bad. Rotation will determine if we are contending for a WC or looking at 75 wins.

That rotation is terrible. Like worst in the league terrible.

I'd really like Turner. I'm afraid that the Dodgers might make him a QO though. It's just money to them

It could be. All really depends on how Folty and Wisler finish out the year. Niese is a good back end starter that's durable. Jiminez would be a reclamation project, but if he doesn't pitch well in ST, you could go with Blair, Newcomb, Sims, Whalen, Gant... basically whoever wins the last spot.

I also wouldn't be opposed to bringing in Gio Gonzalez if his option is declined (I think it will be).

No way I trade Cabrera. I like the idea of McCann coming back to finish his career in Atlanta, but I like Cabrera's future too much for that deal.

I also wouldn't be opposed to bringing in Gio Gonzalez if his option is declined (I think it will be).

Why would the Nats decline the option on Gio? They have a 12 million dollar option in 17 and another in 18 that is guaranteed if he throws 180 IP. He's worth way more than 12 million per year on the open market. Why wouldn't they either hold on to him or trade him?

They may trade him, but I doubt they'll bring him back unless he pitches better down the stretch. He's currently a below average pitcher. They have 4 pitchers who are better and Gioloto needing a spot.

His ERA is virtually league average at the moment. Peripherals suggest a little lower. History suggests a little lower.

Since 2012 when he came to the NL, he has a 3.51 ERA/3.20 FIP, which is good for a 16.7 WAR. His fastball is a tick lower, which is a red flag. On a conservative note, he's worth 2.5-3 wins per year in the next 2 years. You still haven't given a good reason to why a team would cut a guy with a 12 million dollar salary when the guy is worth way more than that on the open market. That is a very valuable piece.

He's also aging and losing velocity. I even said they may trade him, rather than just not pick up the option. I just don't believe they'll bring him back at 12 million when they have 4 better pitchers and Gioloto ready to take over a spot. Obviously injuries to other pitchers between now and then would change that.

I don't think they can. I think if you're traded you can't get a QO the next year.

Dodgers can always out bid us.

Desmond we could get. I'm sure there is a dollar figure where he'd play 3B. Rangers have money too.

I'd take Mac, but it has to be for nothing. Not Cabrera. They have catchers they want to play and Mac isn't a good enough hitter to DH or play at 1B. If we take on ANOTHER player over 30 who was good 5 years ago then it needs to be a salary dump.

I think Neise is exactly the type of pitcher they will sign. If Folty and Wisler don't figure it out the Braves are going to be terrible no matter who else they acquire. It's not like the Braves are in a position to rebuild their entire rotation.

I don't see the point in trading a semi useful OFer for a trash starter though. Just let the young guys fight for the 5th spot like always.

The guys they have are the guys that will either win or lose.

Turner wasn't traded

I see a lot of lineups with Swanson included. I am as anxious as anyone to see him play in Atlanta, but given his .258/.334/.413 line in AA, will he realistically be ready by opening day 2017? I doubt it, but I hope I am wrong. He looks more like a mid/late-season call-up to me.

He'll be up pretty early in the season, at the very least. He's a good defensive SS, we don't need him to tear the cover off the ball from day 1.

For a variety of reasons, it would be best for him to spend some time in AAA in 2017.

It all depends on the service time rules of the new CBA. There are rumblings that a team might have to keep a player in AAA for 2-3 months to gain the extra control. If that's the case, coupled with the fact the Braves are seemingly making moves strictly to sell tickets in 2017, I wouldn't be shocked at all if Swanson starts the year in Atlanta.

Sign: Prado, Reddick, starter, and 2 relievers (I think Miami is too cheap to offer a QO and Reddick won't get one)
Trade for: Controllable starter, McCann, and hitting prospects
Trade away: Markakis, Inciarte, Vizcaino, Kroll, and Withrow from major league roster as well as other prospects with low ceilings such as Ellis, Jenkins, Whalen, and Gant

Mallex
Prado
Freeman
Kemp
Reddick
McCann
Swanson
Albies
Pitcher

Julio, controllable starter, Folty, Wisler, FA Starter

Cabrera, Simmons, 2 vet relievers, 2 lefties from Minter/Paco/Cervenka/Winkler, and a swingman from Jenkins/Gant/Whalen/Ellis

Look for contributions at some point during the season from
Blair, Sims, Newcomb in the rotation Peterson and Ruiz off the bench and whatever other pitchers we do not trade and stash in AAA out of Gant/Whalen/Ellis/Jenkins for spot starts or pen work

Try again.
Sign Turner and Reddick
Salary Dump for Mac
****for Chico I don't think Jenkins is low ceiling. Borderline top 100 prospect
In reality I still think we look to make a big trade for someone, but I can't think of who that is.

Lineup that would never happen....
RF-Reddick
3B-Turner
1B-FF
LF-Kemp/Markakis
2B/SS-Albies
C-McCann/Flowers
2B/SS-Swanson or Jace.........Maybe Swanson come up at break
Pitcher
CF-Inciarte or Mallex....still thinking one gets traded

That could be a team with 3+ Folks with an ops w/i 25 points of 800. I'd feel good about the top 3 in the lineup doing 800 on avg, prob better. Markakis/Kemp could be there is a true platoon but prob more 750. McCann, Albies, Jace/Swanson have a shot to clear 750.

Could be a decent line up.

Then I'm just going to hope that some of the many pitchers step up and are good.
