I don't think anyone was saying he was going to be good, but I am on the same line of thinking that it was strange not to just see what you have.. you could have put him in AAA and just kicked the tires.. they cut him before the ink dried. Again, this is not that big of a deal really.. just strange is all.

Perhaps we had already seen what we needed to see.

Just an observation... Most of the moves that we think are strange, or don't understand are really pretty inconsequential. I am not targeting this comment to any one person... just noting that these things likely don't move the needle at all.

However, the collection of prospects that the Braves have accumulated in the past two years, most of whom have a 10-20% chance of turning into someone who contributes in a big way, is still impressive. If one in twenty becomes a star and two in twenty become useful contributors, then adding 20-30 of these guys means you might get one or two guys who surprise and become stars, and 3-4 useful contributors. It becomes a numbers game to see as many prospects as you can.

Even if you miss on a Matusz, you are likely to hit somewhere else unexpectedly.

I wasn't making a definitive statement on the issue, just saying.

The financial settlement should be interesting. Don't think the Rangers will pay him the full contract the way the Yankees are with ARod.
 
Apparently, Fielder will be classified as medically disabled, which will allow the Rangers to recoup part of his salary through insurance. The insurance will pay 50% of his remaining salary from 2017 onward. But not anything on his remaining 2016 salary.
 
Tommy LaStella failed to report to AAA for 11 days... maybe they will release him and we can pick him back up.

I can't possibly understand how someone can be 23 with a 141 career wRC+ and former MVP being considered a disappointment.
