8/9 TUESDAY MINORS FINAL: Weigel simply having a great 2-016

Rio Ruiz is sitting at 116 wRC+ as a 22 year old in AAA. There are only 3 players his age or younger hitting better in the International League . . .

Nick Williams in the PHI org has a wRC+ of 118. He's #40 on BA's midseason top 100 list.
Jesse Winker in the CIN org has a wRC+ of 121. He's #68 on BA's midseason top 100 list.
Jorge Polanco in the MIN org has a wRC+ of 126. He's #97 on BA's midseason top 100 list.

I'm starting to come around a little on DPete. I just read something that strongly suggests doubles at the AA level is a strong overall indicator of future MLB success. If the Braves can get another impact bat in RF by the time he is ready for the show, it might be plausible that and OF of DPete, Inciarte or Mallex, and some impact hitter in RF could be good enough to be competitive. But ONLY if the money saved by having DPete in LF is used to lock in an elite player somewhere else.

Yeah, it's important to note that Ruiz plays a more demanding defensive position as well. Wish there was more info on his defensive abilities, but no news is typically good news when it comes to that, I guess.

at a higher level...

But I guess I am team Peterson all things considered.

I think it's easy to see why people would think more highly of Dustin, he's putting up much better numbers overall with his better power.

And I think people using wRC+ for minor league numbers are kinda stretching things a bit there, particularly for AAA. Most of the best hitter prospects in the minors right now are either in AA or below or have barely touched AAA and jumped straight to the majors. Ruiz isn't exactly getting compared to the best of the best when using wRC+ with AAA. Ruiz still has quite a bit of potential if he could ever translate his full power potential into games, but I think that chance is slim. He could still be an average major league 3B without it though.

If Peterson can transform some of those doubles into HRs as he moves up from AA to the majors he could be something very interesting though.

I think the Braves could certainly justify skipping Weigel over Carolina and starting him at Mississippi to start 2017. I'd like to see Patrick Weigel, Max Povse, and Matt Withrow in the rotation at Pearl with Max Fried making a quick jump to AA if he starts out well in High A.

He should really be getting the bump up to Carolina at this point. Given he's already 22 I'm surprised they haven't bumped him up a while back. If they bumped him up for the last month or so he could easily start at AA.

Agreed. I really don't see what he has left to prove in Rome. Push him to Carolina and see how he responds the rest of the season.
