D-Backs Ownership Considering ...

... firing Stewart and La Russa, cleaning house again. If so, will be club's 7th GM in 11 seasons.

Here is the great punch line, courtesy of Dave Nightengale:

La Russa and Stewart make beleaguered starter Shelby Miller available at the trade deadline, seven months after acquiring him, and work out a trade with the Miami Marlins.

The Marlins, according to a Marlins executive with direct knowledge of the trade, would have sent three starting pitchers back in return. Sorry, it just wouldn’t look good, not after surrendering what they gave up to get Miller from the Atlanta Braves in the first place.

i would say some of their public comments seem to reflect the same cluelessness their trades and signings displayed...nevertheless it must be acknowledged that both are good baseball men

No, give us one more offseason with them please. We need to pick up Lamb, then you can fire them.

Just a guess, but I'd bet their ownership would have to be heavily involved in ANY deal they might discuss with Hart and Coppy this winter if they're still around.

If not, maybe we could offer them Ender and Blair plus Jenkins and Whalen back for Lamb and Shelby to make them feel like we felt bad for the way things turned out.

I think they are as well. They also seem to have large egos. Egos are the easiest weakness to exploit.

I would love to get Greinke from them. Theres no sense in doing anything but rebuilding. I dont think many teams would be willing to take on his full salary. I would take it if they give us Shelby too. Might even throw in some mid range prospects. It would probably be a PR nightmare to make another deal with the Braves but who else is going to be willing to take on 5 years 150+ million of Greinke's contract?

The Diamondbacks don't need to rebuild. They are loaded with young position players and I like their rotation. They need more depth, but they aren't that far away from competing.

This is a team that went all in and has won 6 more games than the Braves. Yeah they have some good hitters but they also play in an extreme hitters park. They have only 2 pitchers with an ERA under 4 this year and they have less than 40 innings pitched between them. Theres next to no help coming from the minors.

To kinda piggy back on what cajun just posted, Arizona's AA affiliate is right here in Mobile and I can tell you, I hear next to nothing about any buzz regarding highly ranked prospects. They have had a couple nice hitters, but they are not regarded, at least not that I have seen, as big time prospects like you heard about Swanson. I remember going to a game years ago when Justin Upton was in Mobile (they were playing Montgomery and Evan Longoria was on that team). That type of player buzz, I just haven't seen it.

I would, in a heartbeat, trade our system and major league roster for their system and major league roster. I wouldn't even blink.

La Russa paused when asked what he thought of the industry reaction. He said he understands the attention the trade received, particularly since the club had given up another first-round pick, pitcher Touki Toussaint, earlier in the year. But he questions the perception that everyone in baseball disliked it for the Diamondbacks.

“How many front offices, if you polled the other 29, how many would have questioned it or said it was a bad deal?” La Russa asked. “At the same time that we were hearing the criticisms, I was also hearing from people that I knew personally saying, ‘Hey, man, we know where you were coming from. We were interested in Shelby, as well.’

“I would always like to know who criticizes it. There are some people that I have a ton of respect for and there are others I don’t have the same level of respect. If it’s somebody I have big levels of respect, then I would be bothered. If it’s not, then I’m not.”

sounds like there were some good solid baseball men out there that thought it was a good deal for the diamondbacks

If Touki develops into a serviceable MLB pitcher, that already laughable deal is going to look hilariously bad in retrospect. If he pitches to his potential, it's going to be considered historically bad. Either way, letting a guy like that go as the opportunity cost of a low-upside international overpay is FO malpractice.

Hey, good solid baseball guys, though.
