8/23 GDT. Game Two of Snakes n Ladders

I thought all I had to wait was until he started caring? Now that he cares, I have to wait even longer for him to get skinny?

Step 1 was putting back on that Braves jacket he had since was 10

Step 2 is caring

Step 3 is getting skinny

Ahhh, SSS on already very shaky defensive stats. Perfection.

While I feel Kemp will improve defensively in certain areas with Ender it's not really a SSS when it correlates with what he's done previously this year and in previous seasons. Kemp is not a good defender. His range may improve some with Ender (like Markakis' has) but he still is poor at actually fielding the ball and has a poor arm. That won't go away.

Wait, the defense and offense are both SSS.

However, the offense is better than what he has been putting up and the defense is about the same. I don't understand your point. Is Matt Kemp not among the worst defenders in baseball by both the "eye" test and the "stat" test?

to paraphrase Mark Twain there are those who use statistics the way a drunk uses a street light...for support rather than illumination

Kemp is a lousy defender, but so is Matt Holliday and the Cardinals managed to keep him in LF during some pretty good seasons. I think the thing is we hope Kemp hits enough to contribute and then is lifted when we have a lead late in ball games, which is what happened last night.

Kemp with the Braves: 269/344/436 - 105 WRC+. Would like more pop but that OBP is really solid.

Kemp regaining his plate discipline seemingly overnight is by far the most encouraging sign that he can contribute next year. His defense never has, and never will be good, so I'm not going to even entertain the idea that him losing weight will make any difference.

Maybe losing weight would help with offense some. He's not gonna be good defensively, but he could potentially be good offensively.

I think Kemp could be ok in LF if he gets in better shape compared to replacement level.
