September outfield mix? now that Mallex is coming back

If this isn't one of the least important concerns the organization has, I'm not sure what is.

If we could get a C or 3B for Kemp, I wouldn't be opposed to Neck-LF, Mallex/Ender fighting for RF/CF.

That is if we can get a hitting C or 3B.

I'm not so sure Mallex is the Judy hitter we all assume he is. He was hitting the ball with authority and he is still growing.

I don't remember the numbers,but wasn't there a time when nearly half of his hits were for extra bases? With his speed, a solid line drive has a good shot at being a double or triple.

For 2016 Nick becomes the 4th OF maybe he can come in for defense for Kemp once in a while, once this season ends id trade him for a soda machine for the new clubhouse.

If you're a believer in WAR, Markakis has been a superior player to kemp this year.

Kemp...

SD = 0.0

Atlanta = -0.7

Markakis = 1.4

Everyone here seems to have a lot of confidence in the health of Kemp, Inciarte, and Mallex. You can assume our 4th outfielder will see atleast half a season worth of at bats if not more. We most likely wont have a great rotation or lineup so we need to make up for that with quality depth.

Why all the love for powerless outfielders?

Mallex and Incarte may hit 10-12 home runs between them. That's pretty horrible for two starting outfielders.

Theres more than one way to skin a cat. If they can put up a OBP north of .340 and play GG caliber defense then they are good assets to have. We have solid power in the middle of the lineup with Freeman and Kemp.

Other than those two there's no real power in the lineup. Kemp isn't a great player anymore.

where are the runs going to come from if an OF corner bat gives you .340 with 5 homers? Those are really fourth outfielder type stats.

Runs can be scored by ways other than the HR?

I am an OBP guy. I believe the less outs your making the more runs your going to score. Inciarte and Mallex on the bases are going to score more than a slow guy like Freeman. We might not score 10+ runs a game a lot but I think it would be a lot easier to manufacture runs when we need to. Single, stolen base, move the runner over, sac fly, and you got a run. Speed also puts pressure on the defense and affects how the pitcher pitches. We also wouldnt have to score as many runs with good defenders in the outfield.
