9/23 GDT: Braves go fishing one more time

Clearly Ender is a better hitter leading off. Makes you wonder how good his season would have been if he didn't hit in the 8 hole so much.

Yeah, why try to measure the route a guy ran vs the optimal direct line between the 2 points? How could such a metric possibly have any use evaluating defenders? Such a waste of time tracking it.

Agreed. I see no reason to add to the rotation next year. Guys like Whalen and Collmenter can slot into the middle of the rotation because they just get outs. They have proven that you can succeed without throwing over 90 as long as you can hit your spots and change speeds.

Maybe they can be packaged with someone like Ellis or Ruiz to get Quintana?

I know right? I bet he hits LHers better from the lead off spot too.

Let's just hope the Braves don't acquire another guy who hits the best in the lead off slot or they will be in trouble.

Baseball has always embraced advances in technology and math. Even Branch Rickey (best baseball mind of all time) knew the benefits of range over fielding % for example. Route efficiency and other ideas being developed will continue that trend. Eventually they will wind up on the back of baseball cards for the next generation to grow up with.

Kemp is so good at protecting Freeman he was doing it for a few weeks all the way from SD. And to think, all the Braves gave up for him was Olivera! What a genius move!!
