2016 Postseason Thread

It's easy to call someone the best manager in baseball when players actually execute. Something the Braves have never done in the past 2 decades of playoffs, and having the best manager didn't change that.

Again, I'm not just talking about results. Bochy has more WS titles with arguably less talented teams. Based on his influence on a clubhouse combined with his tactical moves, I think he is clearly the best manager in baseball. I think he's one of only a handful that legitimately has a positive impact on his teams.

I wasn't trying to argue Heyward should have been in the game, was just saying I think it's possible he could have caught it.

Francona's use of Miller was the right move. You're not just postponing risks. Again, if you don't use Miller there, it's a guarantee a lesser pitcher faces the top of the order. If you use him like Francona did, it's only possible a lesser pitcher faces the top of the order later, and that's only if Francona insists on Allen getting the last outs. It's not just one option; it's definitely the best option.

Outcomes do not prove processes. The process Francona is using is correct. The outcomes are always left to chance to some degree.

I guess I would rather use Miller when Maddon had expended at least some of the arrows in his quiver.

For all the talk of great managing, 23 have Raja Davis leading off and Perez hitting 7th.

And batting order has an extremely minimal impact on the game.

Maddon used to throw BJ Upton at the top of the lineup and has had even more bizarre guys leading off. Every manager is going to do a couple things that are weird.

You have a bizarre infatuation with trying to prove Francona is dumb. Weird, since he does a lot of things more analysis-driven fans want to see.

If you're going to pitch Miller with a six-run lead, you'll probably throw him when you have a ten-run lead.

I understand game 1 BP usage.. but I can't really explain using Miller tonight up 6. You are basically saying to everyone else, you suck don't even bother coming the rest of the series.. Why not let him rest tonight and have him available for possibly 3 innings tomorrow.

I guess my bigger issue is if you're not going to use Merritt and only use Salazar, Manship, and Clevinger sparingly, why have them on the roster? Granted, you will need to have some of them around, but it appears all will be used exclusively in mop-up roles. For all the talk of needing to keep guys sharp, how can they be expected to be that.

I guess Miller was already warm so I can see him going an inning...that said, sending him out there for a second with a six-run lead is odd. Seems like they'd rather have him fresher and available to go tomorrow.

Well, they may not need them sharp. Why use them if you don't have to?

You play to win the game, hello?

Man how many titles would we have had in the mid to late 90s if we would have had a dynamic duo like Kimbrel and Venters?
