BB America Draft Report Card: Don't waste your time

It's a premium content item, but it is also a slapdash, inaccurate piece of junk written by one Hudson Belinsky. Does not seem as if he's ever taken a close look at the people at all. One comment already has called him out; that Matt Hearn is by far the fastest guy in the draft, well ahead of Gonzalez.

Aside from the fact that political correctness now prevents BBA from even putting a grade on the report card(!), it is full of ridiculous notions. One of the best is that Drew Harrington is the closest to being ready for the majors, despite being held to only 15 innings this past season.

The guy who's truly the closest, no pun intended, is 27th-round pick Corbin Clouse. The steal of the final day worked in 19 games for Danville and Rome, went 5-0, 1.19 with 5 saves and 37 strikeouts (and only 13 hits) allowed in 24 innings. A beefly lefty (6-0, 230) out of tiny Davenport College, he is a true oddity.

Again, the report card as such is premium content, so buy it at your peril.

I really like Hudson Bellinski's work. I think it's pretty ridiculous that you're claiming the work he's doing is trash based off 2 months of short-season minor league baseball.

You think it's junk because he would dare to say Drew Harrington is closer to the majors than Corbin Clouse?

I have to take issue with your Harrington claim. The only reason he pitched so few innings is because Louisville abused him so much this year. I think the only thing holding him back from moving quickly would be if we decide to kee him in the rotation.

This (for me).

I didn't really have any big issues with any of Belinsky's findings - a lot of that was probably dependent upon which scouts he talked to at what time to be honest, and all that is liable to change before any of our draftees get halfway through their first year of full-season ball. I really didn't think it would be that out of the ordinary to see some believe that a lefty with plus control and command who'd pitched in a major conference to be a fast-mover if he were turned into a pen guy - I'm sure a lot of teams would love to have guys like that in their pens so they didn't have to keep spending $3-$4 million every year on the same LOOGY retreads.

Plus, he did talk about Clouse quite a bit - mentioning his fastball, his great work out of the pen and quick promotion, and had him as the best late round pick.

Yeah, I have had a burr under my saddle lately. I'll try to do better. Thanks for calling me out on it. Seriously.
