BP's Top 10 Braves Prospects

One of the better thought out lists I've seen. Whether by coincidence of not those are probably the ten prospects in our system with the most upside.

FWIW, they has Weigel as #11, and called Wentz the guy they might regret not putting in this top 10 the most.

Interesting. Its hard to weigh those two versus guys like Dustin Peterson and Rio Ruiz who are closer to the majors with higher floors but lower ceilings. I think I'd rather have Peterson and Ruiz.

I fully expect Maitan to jump over all those guys in pretty short order, and think that's pretty high to have Soroka given the ceilings the arms after him have, but every list is going to be questioned. Tough to argue anything other than the order - gotta figure those are the "right" 10.

They didn't even mention Ruiz or Peterspn, and I agree with their exclusion. In my opinion, the only guys on the farm that matter are the guys who can become 3+ WAR players at the MLB level. Those are the guys who cost $20M+ per season and are rarely available at all. Guys with 1-2 WAR ceilings like Peterson and Ruiz are available every year at minimal cost to fill in the weak spots of a roster.

I would gladly trade both Ruiz and Peterson for another Weigel or Wentz, and I wouldn't even think twice about the swap.

Wha?!? No Didder?

Seriously (although I am a big Didder fan), this is a good list. Enscheff, I think Peterson and Ruiz fall into the second tier of prospects. I highly doubt they are impact players, but I think they both could be solid contributors. We'll know more next spring, but I think they have reasonably high floors.

Weigel has jumped up every prospect publication's board. I like him a lot, but his value may never be higher than it is right now. I would not be surprised to see him included in a trade this offseason. That is different than saying let's trade him for what we can get.

I can't believe how good our system is. Acuna being number 2 is a surprise, I would put Albies, but I agree he's top 5. If he was healthy, I think he would have had an insane season.

I thought as much of Acuna as any of the guys I got to see this year. He as fluid and athletic as any one we have. If he can stay healthy, this ranking wont be a surprise (well, only of Maitan hasn't eclipsed him).

Is age the reason A.J. Minter hasn't merited a mention? It is a strong list, BTW

They noted in the intro that the "Others" list is not necessarily the next 5 best prospects, rather 5 other interesting prospects. Minter could very well be in their Braves Top 15, but they didn't think a future BP arm was as interesting to write/read about as guys like Riley, Wentz, Weigel, etc.
