I understand the signing. Dickey is a steady veteran and innings eater. From 2013-2015 he averaged just about 6 and a half innings per start. This year he averaged 5.84 IP per start. You can pretty much count on him taking the ball every 5th day and giving you about 6 innings. That has a good bit of value.
Also, getting out of the AL will drop his ERA a bit. His biggest weakness is, like a lot of knuckleballers, the HR ball so getting him out of Toronto will help even more.
Dickey isn't going to suddenly be his Cy Young self again but his ability to reliably take the mound and give you innings will help this club. He's a good option to fill innings while we wait for our prospects to show us they're ready.
