2016-2017 Off-Season Thread

They both have the grit and rah rah you look for to lead your outfield

But I think Inciarte still hasn't even reached his peak yet.

If it's going to happen it will be on the offensive side of the ball. His BA/OBP delta improved from .035 in '15 to a decent .060 in '16. If there were a little more discipline that would be exciting.

On Statcast, the story isn't so rosy. Exit velocity is 86 (avg 90) and launch angle 6.67 (avg 10). I suppose one way to look at it is that there is room for improvement. The other way is that the Willie Mays Hayes approach lasts as long as his legs. Which could be a while, but he'll never ISO much more than .125.

Whatever the case, there hasn't even been potential names release. Correct? So basically, what's been thrown around is just what bored fans post on fan message boards, Twitter, MLBTR and Fangraphs. Then people come back here and post as if these are real life discussions. If some of you really want to believe that it starts with Swanson and Maitan ++, just because some White Sox fans said so, go ahead and live in that fantasy land. Those two are as close to untouchable as you will find in the system.

I don't think anyone said that...

Right. Swanson is a 1:1 we stole from the dumb and desperate, and Maitan is a 1:1 equivalent we've been waiting for since he was 12. Kinda like Elvis with Priscilla.

I think the FO really likes Folty and sees him as a main piece going forward. I don't see him being moved.

I tend to agree with this. I'm not sure a Sale acquisition makes a ton of sense if all you are doing is upgrading Folty's spot in the rotation.

Braves hope for contending any time soon would seem to be somewhat contingent on Folty developing into a near all star caliber starter.

....

On acquiring Sale. Obviously it sort of depends on the prospects it would take. But I think perhaps some of the writing about Sale is a bit too focused on whether he could help the Braves contend in 2017.

He is under control through 2019. That's two more seasons where you might construct a contender around him. There is also the possibility that you could flip him at some point in the future that is better than what you gave up.

What are you even suggesting? That we don't discuss potential deals at all? What the **** would we chat about during a 4 month offseason?

Whether or not you can understand it, there is a huge population of fans and fan sites perfectly capable of understanding and discussing player values and what it might take to make potential deals work. In fact, many of these people who contribute to these fan sites are hired by MLB teams precisely because they are so knowledgeable.

Dbacks had a lot of talent IMO. Their offense was set to be absurd if Pollack didn't get hurt.

this does tend to get overlooked.

Also, that trade was good for Atlanta regardless, but the worst part of the trade for Arizona was that Shelby Miller was awful.

I'm not sure what is happening with their roster at the moment, but they could easily have the key pieces of their plan from last year rebound and have their plan look a lot more reasonable.

Wait, aren't you the one who tries to police us on which deals we can and cannot talk about??

There's a pretty large difference between the Braves, Diamondbacks and Padres. Our farm system is loaded with good prospects, but our depth is incredible. We have the prospects to make a couple big trades and survive. I'm not saying we cant/won't fail, but we have a great chance to rebound.

40-man roster is full as Braves have added Gosewich, Fried, Sims and Camargo.

Pretty sure this means that Lien and Mike Peterson (both also drafted in 2012) are exposed, but I don't know who else.

I don't think it really has to be one or the other. Undoubtedly the Sox are asking for Swanson or Maitan because it would be foolish not to. But there's pretty much no way the Braves deal either of them. If that means no Sale, then no Sale. But I'd venture that the price would go down the longer discussions go on.
