Yeah, I was mid-post writing something similar. Some awe at the magnitude of the job would improve his decision-making process, I'd think.

The way I see it, Trump's experience is nearly irrelevant. Whatever the biggest deal he's ever made is, he'll be called upon to make decisions on a regular basis that are exponentially greater in size and import. If he isn't a little bit awed by this responsibility, I'm concerned.

Trump in that sense then is the most qualified person to ever sit in the presidency (I don't actually believe this). But if the point is to sit down with powerful men around the world and make deals then trump has done this for his whole life basically.

There's a difference between being in awe of something and being intimidated by something. This isn't so much a trial by fire for Trump, or, at least, not as much of one as it clearly was for Obama during his first term. I think that was thethe's point and it's a salient one.

I didn't use the word awe. thethe did. I don't think Obama was intimidated by the task facing him. He dove right in.

I have no doubt that Trump understands what's in front of him. He more than any other president understands what it takes to run a large enterprise. He obviously needs to refine other aspects of his leadership and I think that will come with time.

I'll just disagree that one must be in awe of the job is a prerequisite to success.

Trump through shoddy deal making and a truck load of hubris ran the casino's into the ground. As reported in some cases before they ever opened a door.

What subsequently happened in AC is beside the point and further proves Trump had little if any the foresight into the gambling business (or steaks,or airline or The Higher Education business).

And he has shown over the years he has little expertise in running anything
except a short con.

this conversation goes back to the campaign and questions of temperament.
He has taken the oath of office and even his supporters are still questioning his temperament.

The United States of America is more than a large enterprise. I am sure he has some skills and will hire some very good people (whom he already seems to be ignoring), but you just don't walk into a room full of powerful people as President and cut a deal. There will always be considerable ramifications outside that room and if one only looks at the Presidency as a succession of deals, I don't think the results will be cohesive and positive in the long run.

His number one jib is to get this economy moving and in that sense he will be the most qualified president we've had in a long time.

I agree there is more but I think his ability to find qualified people and delegate these responsibilities will facilitate success. We all try to fit presidents into this mold and if they are not that type then they can't succeed. I just don't believe that is the case
