2016-2017 Off-Season Thread

Looks like Hwang is about to sign a minor league contract with the Giants for 1.5 million if he makes the big league club... extra incentives are thought to have been included. I hope we at least inquired. That's pretty cheap for a gamble.

On another note, I'm surprised that Hammel is still available. He's such an underrated pitcher. Would have like to see him over Dickey. At this stage he seems to be pretty cheap ish.

Wow... Forsythe has been solid, but DeLeon is a steep price to pay IMO.

I disagree. Of course, I'm not a huge DeLeon fan, but Forsythe is a good player and has two years of control. Pretty fair trade for both sides, imo, but I would have thought the Rays could have gotten a bit more.

I'm not huge on DeLeon either, but he's got a ton of helium right now. I'm sure that's why they are trying to maximize his value. I'm just always skeptical of a player who doesn't show anything until he's 28 years old. And last year was also a small step back. I just don't know how much of Forsythe could be fools gold. I do like him, I just don't know if he's for real yet.

2 years. 2018 is an option year I think. Unless I read it wrong.

Yep, you're right. It's at least a reasonable deal then. $15.5 million for 2 years of Forsythe is good, not that the salary is all that crucial for LA. But I like De Leon a lot. That's a tough one, but I think it's probably an ok risk on LA's part.

I'm not high on DeLeon at all and the fact the Dodgers were shopping him so hard makes me think they know stuff about him that made them want to trade him before his value tanked.

I like this trade for the rays...what de Leon did in the pcl was impressive and his peripherals in the majors were not bad....I seem to like pitchers like de Leon and Wisler more than most around here...I'm willing to discount early struggles in the majors to some extent

Hoarding pitching prospects is always a good strategy. You get one like Sale/archer/quintana and you can basically rebuild your whole system when you trade them.

as expensive as a Archer would be, we can trade for him and still have a good farm system. It's incredible.

I'm not sure how De Leon is like Wisler. And for others, I'm not sure what signs are there that his value is about to tank. He seems legit.

It is more than a little baffling why a team with Adonis Garcia at 3B wouldn't be willing to top that offer to Hwang. There is essentially zero risk in this deal for the Giants, and the upside is a 2-3 WAR guy at 3B.
