2016-2017 Off-Season Thread

Logan Forsythe to LA for Jose deLeon.

Excellent move for the Rays. Trading 2 years of a player for 6 years of another player is the type of move that keeps small market teams competitive.

This probably means they will be trading another starting pitcher at the deadline. If Archer rebounds he could land them a huge return.

Yeah, I'd like to see some more explanation of how Wisler and DeLeon are similar.

From what I've read, De Leon doesn't really have a big-time fastball, but it's definitely above average, and his changeup is rated better than Wisler's. And the minor-league K and BB rates alone make him a clearly better prospect to me.

Fair trade for both sides. Dodgers get a good player in the short term, Rays get a decent prospect. Some people over value every prospect.

not many. Every trade is 85% in favor of the team getting the prospect.

And I would venture to guess that a majority of trades in which a team gives up many years of a very good prospect(s) for minimal years of a decent player, the trade works out better for the team getting the prospect(s).

I would seriously doubt that. And it would depend on what you definition of very good prospect and decent player is.

It's pretty obvious the Braves didn't WANT Valbuena or Wieters or even some of these guys that we get frustrated about them not signing.

I also think you have to see what Rio has or doesn't have

Doesn't look like the braves are all that interested in marginal upgrades that tie up roster spots for more than a one year deal.

I don't know if they believe in Garcia (doubt they are sold) or not but he's cheap and already on the roster.

I would not be surprised if 3B ended up being the position they made an investment in long term whether it be trade and big dollars or both.

Maybe. I agree, they didn't want to make a marginal improvement with internal options close by. I think they start Rio in AAA again and promote him quickly to platoon with Adonis.

--I guess they could have signed a 2 year deal with the intention of flipping that guy... but I don't think it is a big lose not signing a marginal upgrade to platoon with Adonis. We are not a championship team, so this is the best year to see what we have in Rio.

The bulk of the PAs at 3B will almost certainly go to SRod once Albies is promoted. The upgrade from SRod to Valbuena is very minimal when defensive value is factored in.

Valbuena only made sense for the Braves if they were truly trying to push for WC contention in 2017, which they quite obviously are not.

Holland to the Rockies for $7M plus incentives and a vesting option. Another guy that could have helped the Braves off the board.

Austin Jackson to the Indians looks like. Regarding Holland, not sure Colorado is a place I wanna go to rebuild my value and prove I'm healthy. Better than being a starter there I guess.

Jackson signed a minor league deal. Are the Braves so flush with RHed OFers that they couldn't find a place for him on a similar deal?
