CBB Thread

Nobody wants to bring it up because UNC basketball has a rich tradition. Nobody wants to call out a blue blood.

That and NC has friends in the right places...aka John Skipper at ESPN, etc. NC is a media darling. We've heard very little about the academic scandal through mainstream media. The general public has been fed false propaganda all season, for instance ESPN spent pimping NC for a surefire 1 seed long before the end of the season despite the fact their were other teams out there with better resumes.

John Swofford was in charge of the athletic department at NC when the scandal was put into action. Now he's in charge of the ACC.

And all those followers and the NCAA will do whatever it takes to protect St. Dean.

Too bad Tark isn't still alive. The NCAA is so mad at NC they gave them a championship and gave Cleveland State the death penalty.

ESPN did run something about the academic scandal on Outside the Lines. But that was just to show they said something about it because it got very little coverage on any of the other banter shows.

I do realize ESPN ran the bit on OTL but besides that it has been a major coverup.

Could you imagine if the roles were reversed and something like this happened to happen at Duke? ESPN would have to form another 24 hr channel just to follow it. Nearly every major media outlets including those outside the sports networks would be calling for K's head and their would be riots all across the country.

But being its North Carolina and St. Deans legacy and good ol folksy Ole Roy no one seems to care. Ol Roy can talk in circles and deny everything and everyone believes him. He's such a great guy but all he does is throw his players under the bus after losses and cry tears of defeat when things don't go his way.

And if the NCAA would handle this the way they should then Ol Roy can really compare it to the disaster in Haiti.

NCAA rewards cheaters.

Carolina should have been given the death penalty 1.5 years ago.

And then rewards them with a gift championship with an easy path and multiple bailouts by the refs.

It's questionable whether Carolina cleaned up their program today but one things for sure the 93,05,09 banners better come down.

And sad thing about it is it cost a great clean program like Gonzaga their moment.

But Carolina should have not been in the position.

And how Carolina fans, staff, and faculty can deny and justify what what on is astonishing and ignorant. Quite frankly it's disgusting. If that wasn't program I'd be ashamed and quit cheering.

The University of North Carolina is a fine academic institution and why a university like that can stand for that dishonesty and lack integrity for the benefit of the men's basketball program is unbelievable. Think of it this way, as a state funded public institution the university has spent over 18 million dollars in lawyer fees to defend their basketball program.

Then again their were a bunch of fake UNC fans in the student section last night.

So fitting for such a fake program that has no standards. I guess that indeed is the "Carolina Way."

And yet it continues to be the large elephant in the room that no one wants to discuss and talk about. Aw shucks Ole Roy is such a great guy and doesn't know anything. Everyone thinks the basketball program has been a victim when in fact the true victims are the student athletes that have no education to fall back on to make a living, the student body and graduates whose education and academic integrity has been compromised at the expense of athletics, the professional faculty whose credentials have to be questioned, and the taxpayers...and on the court all the teams that competed on the same court as the Tar Heels.

The University and the NCAA will do whatever it takes to protect St Deans skeletons in the closet.

Gonzaga earned their right to the championship game. Their opponent didn't. It's debatable whether the Zags would have beaten any other team that cleared their path from the other side of the bracket but as it is the fact remains...the NCAA is a joke and has no backbone for what they should stand for. Good things happen to bad people and bad things happen to good people.

UNC played the #2, #3, and #5 ranked teams on the way to a title but sure "easy" path.

They went through a 16, 8 or 9, 4, 2, 3, 1, nothing easy.

Far cry from Duke's two title runs which were easy as hell.

And the cheating scandal is brought up all the time, you must be new to social media.

And the refs bailed them out against Arkansas.

Illinois got a commitment from 2018 Ayo Dosunmu, point guard out of the Chicago Public League and the highest rated CPL kid since Deon Thomas back in the early 90s. Underwood landed the 2017 Mr Basketball and has the 2018 favorite committed now. Things are turning around in Champaign!

Things aren’t turning around as quickly as I’d like. 0-7 to start the Big Ten, although 3 of those losses came in OT and a fourth on a buzzer beater. This team is missing the athletes needed to run Underwood’s system. 5th straight season missing the tournament - unacceptable at Illinois.

This new Selection Show format is awful. Why they feel they need to change this is beyond me. They did it two years ago and were met with some pretty harsh feedback - it’s gonna be the same thing after this year’s version.

WTF just happened? How can a one seed from the best conference in America lose to a 16 seed by 20 points? Unreal.
