MINORS THREAD 4/14 .... FRIDAY GAMES; Anderson goes at noon

all four strikeouts were swinging.

I didn't realize this at the time, but the last K of the first inning was against Blake Rutherford. Anderson threw a 1-2 changeup and rutherford was way out in front of it, and the bat slipped out of his hands and ended up past first base.

Twitter:

#Braves Ian Anderson settling in 93-95 w/ FB. 3 potential plus pitches. Could be better than any pitcher in org

If he ends up sitting in the mid-90s legitimately, with his secondary pitches and overall feel for pitching, that's stupid.

The stinking 'In play, run(s)' on Gameday is messing with me. Popped up for both Cruz and Pache, but it was an error and FC. Blah.

seems Anderson has lost some mechanics.. pitches are tailing more and he had 2 walks that inning... still finished with 2 Ks (both swinging)..

Anderson's starting to miss his spots a bit, it looks like. 2 BBs in the 4th and some other 2- and 3-ball counts, but he got 2 more swinging K's and got Rutherford to ground out.

He's at 59 pitches, so probably just 1 more inning for him, but he now has 16 Ks in 8.2 IP. I'll take it. The 5 BBs are a bit of an issue, but he is 18, after all.

Not sure if he just wasn't comfortable or what. He worked slower that inning as well. I know Park walked early, so that slowed him down a bit.. but he just didn't seem as confident that inning. Pitches tail away from lefties.. missing up and down.

Well, if he's able to K people at 18 in A ball while not feeling comfortable or confident, that's a pretty good sign.

I really like that we're trying to draft guys that are younger than most. Rutherford is about to turn 20 and he's just now getting A-ball experience. It won't matter too much if he's a stud, but it puts him a bit behind.

I don't know what his pitch count it or strike to pitch ratio.. but I would think he has 2 more innings and he is throwing 70%+ strikes.

BTW, I like that it took until the last out of the 4th for our hitters to record a K. That's been a problem for that lineup so far.

He's at just over 60% strikes after the 4th, and he's closing in on 70 pitches. That double play helped, but we've had a pretty strict 80-pitch limit on our guys, so it will be tough for him to get through the 6th.
