MINORS THREAD FINAL4/27 ... Walkoff HR for Franco

Dude... you asked a question and I answered it. How do we have so much pitching? We traded nearly every asset we have for pitching. That's how.

And I was responding to your last sentence of that response. Its so easy to say I would have went for hitting without having to actually target the hitters that you wanted.

Heyward turned into Inciarte/Swanson

Upton yielded us Fried/Gohard/Du Peterson (showed a lot of promise)

Gattis got us Ruiz (meh)

Simmons yes

Kimbrel was a bad move to get rid of Melvin

So again, where were the hitters that were available? Its easy to say Braves traded for pitching and didn't try for hitting without knowing the discussions. Its all speculation. They traded these guys and picked the best available players. Can you really be upset with the 15/16 drafts at this point? The 15 draft has the potential to be the type of draft that keeps us int he postseason for 6-8 years.

Agreed. The FO decided that they absolutely had to shed Melvins money. I didn't agree with it at the time and I still don't agree with it. Do we know the Red Sox would have traded for Kimbrel a year earlier? Probably but you never know what their thought process was.

Guess how they got their starting SS!?!?!?!!?

Its such a lazy argument to say look at how the Astros/Cubs did it.

Cubs traded pitching for their SS

Cubs traded pitching for their starting (MVP candidate) 1b

Cubs drafted Schwarber, Bryant, Baez with high draft picks.

Cubs have stud position prospects in the minors.

Then they went out and paid for established pitching like Lester and Lackey.

I like that strategy better

Per usual - this line of thinking means we can never question a move bc we of course don't know what was available.

Good hitters have been traded. The Yanks just grabbed a couple for closers.

The Cubs got a couple for pitchers.

I can't tell you who was available to Coppy... what I can tell you is that it's abundantly clear his strategy was accumulate as much pitching as possible.

I don't agree with that

That's true. We don't know 100%. However I think the Braves acquired all these pitchers because that's what they wanted. Not because there was a lack of hitters available to trade for.

Rizzo was a tremendous buy low guy. Amazing move by the Cubs - No denying that.

Cubs drafted those guys with all high picks all top 10 picks. Braves had one pitch in the top 10. Who was the guy you are taking last yaer? Obviously Lewis. Are you saying you think Lewis is going to be that good?

Braves have stud position prospects in the minors (Albies/Acuna/Maitan) plus many other high ceiling latin players and a former top 10 pick who might have just needed to leave Seattle.

Braves paid for Colon/Dickey...Advantage Braves.

Cubs signed that pitching when they were ready to win. Lets see what hte Braves do in the next 2 years.

So what do you say about the incredible Cubs organization for trading a hitter for a 2 month relief pitcher?

Man I'd love just once to tune into page 5 of the milb thread to read about performances not pissing contests.

So D@mn true! A few people spoil it over stupid ish. I used to give first hand reports from all the game then decided why....this is becoming scout 2.0

I don't know why you're so obsessed with talking about the individual players... I don't care about that. I care about the strategy. I care about the process. I don't agree with it. That's OK, isn't it?

Thank goodness Wren left us with Albies and Acuna or else we'd have nothing down there (Matian is bare 16)

I thought it was a bad move but when we're in a position to win WS the strategy changes from rebuilding from scratch. I'd think that is rather obvious

I like the 90s Yankees strategy, but that isn't going to help the Braves.

We're literally debating the players we have and who may make it, and whether the Braves strategy will work out. What more do you want on a message board?

It seems like y'all get upset over anyone showing any skepticism whatsoever.

I'd really love to hear it. More what the milb game threads need to be about.

I'm pretty sure that's why fearless leader created the negabraves and posibraves sections.

It's the milb game thread. Comments should be about the performances of the day and or game commentary ... like the MLB game thread. It's literally like this every day in this thread. You can't stop (either of you)

What comments do you want to see?

"Looks like Sims pitched 7 innings with 2 runs given up. good outing."

"Alex Jackson was 0-2... bummer"

Since we're not all actually watching the games, all we can talk about is the results and what they may mean for the future

Bummed for gohard. He was really controlling game. The hitter that drove two in was being controlled too. His slider was great. For what ever reason gohard threw a outside fastball after slider after slider. The hitter was fooled but because it was outside he could flick his bat. He should have busted him in then if need another slider away. Tough luck for a good game
