I hope Touki has a good start. His peripherals have actually been pretty good

His K and BB rates have been extremely good, perhaps even shockingly so. It's the hits and homers. His xFIP is sitting at 3.21, which is pretty insane for an ERA of 8.28. And it means that if he keeps pitching like he is, we should expect his ERA to start dropping pretty rapidly.

It looks like a huge chunk of his ERA can be attributed to a high BABIP (.357), a high HR/FB%, and an extremely low LOB%. His GB% is actually up as well.

So all in all, it looks like he's pitching extremely well, he's just been ridiculously unlucky.

Touki is a strange cat. I have listened to several starts and it seems he will dominate and then just fall apart and then dominate again.. I think the unlucky is a big part of it, but you have to put some back on him for not handling adversity very well. He will K the 1st two guys then get ahead 1-2 to the next and then the wheels fall off. a dunker will fall in and then walk the next guy before a 3 run bomb or 2 run double.. then 2 more hits, then K the next 3 guys. rinse and repeat.

There are still elements of bad luck in that, though. If a blooper falls in and he gives up a 2B and a HR, there's a chance that all of those were fairly unlucky events. And there's probably a good chance that bad luck played a part in them being strung together like that. But in the stat sheet, it just appears as '1B, 2B, HR' and it looks like he lost it for a minute.

I'm not trying to say that his ERA would be 1.50 were it not for bad luck, but most of his numbers suggest he should probably be well under 4.00 at least. If his ERA stays where it is while he continues pitching like this, then it becomes harder and harder to say it's a lack of luck and perhaps he's just throwing a couple meatballs all the sudden. But as it is, I think we should expect the results to improve significantly.

I wasn't knocking Touki. He has the stuff to do it. Just a steeper learning curve IMO. He throws his curve a lot and if he misses, it will get hit. His FB is good but when he gets behind, he will get hit. I am still on the Touki bandwagon.

He's very young and very raw. I think he'll be a slow go through the minors but he still has a chance to really good. Hopefully enough other guys will be good that we can improve and let Touki take his time.

Don't backtrack now! You're not a posi-brave anymore!

I just feel like Touki is one of those all or nothing guys. He's either going to click and be amazing or never sniff the big leagues.

Did it sound like guys were squaring him up? How about his location? Did it sound like he was hitting his spots? Did that curve still sound like a whiffle ball? Did it sound like he was repeating his mechanics better this season?

I'm really interested in how this new "ear test" can replace the inaccurate "eye test".

It sounded like a guy would swing/take strike 3 and go back to the dugout. Then the next guy would do the same. Then the next guy would bloop one into right field and then so on and so forth. Not sure why you drew any other conclusion. unfortunately, until FS league gets some cameras that is all we can do.. go by what others see.. If you have anything else to add otherwise, then please do so.

Personally I'd be more impressed if he was giving reports from a Brail version of the game summary. That way he could incorporate feel into his analysis.

Just like the Knuckle, a sick curve will "sometimes" produce some bloop singles. Sounds like he just needs to learn to manage a game better.
