MINORS THREAD TUESDAY 5/16: Harrington Seeks 5th Win

Then that slider is like the 3rd he's hit so far at the major league level.

And it's more than just a slow start. He has real issues with the slider right now. He also has issues drawing walks when not hitting 8th. His K% at the major league level is disturbing. Obviously he needs to adjust to how people are pitching it. So if you think he was ready to be called up then can you explain why?

Not a huge fan of his call up at the time. but I think the front office wanted to push him. They wanted to know what he has.

I like how he has survived the start of this season. I think he is going to finish strong.

I hope so. Braves really need him to be a cornerstone 3+ WAR guy.

If we were above .500 after the All-Star break and there is a spot in the lineup for Albies and he has been playing well in AAA, I would be ok with calling him up this year.

Swanson is coming around. To say he wasn't ready because of April struggles with a MLB slider, are to be perfectly honest, petty.

I guess Adam Laroche "wasn't ready" all of those april and mays he played for us either.

Fair enough. Just disagree that using service time as the determining factor is a healthy organizational philosophy.

It's not the sole determining factor but it should play a big role. Especially for a mid market team like Atlanta.

He struggled with a MLB slider are not contained to just April of 2017.

No, but he isn't a finished product either. Players develop, A LOT of times at the MLB level. His struggles aren't hurting a team going no where this season.

players do develop...but it is better that as much of this development as possible takes place in the minors

So he would learn how to hit a MLB slider at AAA?

Swanson will likely be fine. Hilarious how much over reacting to a slow start for a 23 year old there is....

I have never said that. The FO that wants you to buy tickets might have.

Funny you believed it though.

Did I believe it? I haven't bought any tickets this year. Seems Swanson was brought up to excite the fan base whether he was "ready" or not.

I would say yes he could. I mean it's not like he's having an issue on great sliders. Literally any slider thrown he has issues with. Those pitches exist at the AAA level.

there are a lot of crafty veteran pitchers in AAA who know how to exploit a hitter's weaknesses...Albies is working through that...i believe the experience would have been good for Swanson

Baseball is a funny game. The one Braves pitcher who won yesterday had a 6+ ERA.. The Three that lost had sub 2.5 and only 1 now has an ERA above 2.50. Tough day for our hitters.
