what's everyone's thoughts on him currently. He's hitting very well right now. I'd honestly keep him at 3rd and trade Adonis asap. 3 more hits today just keeps raking.
I think he's just a dude. But maybe worth playing for a couple of years and hoping TD or Riley really is an avg 3B starter or better.
The Garcia, Rio paring seems too obvious....not sure why we aren't doing it. Rio is a young who they want to play everyday but he's the LH side of the platoon and would play most days. The splits work out well. Neither guy is expensive.
I think he's a solid guy. But if he's your 3B you likely want him hitting 6-8. Swanson looks like an 8th hitter right now. If we are going to have a corner be that low then we need to make up that production somewhere else and I'm not sure where we do. B/c I like Albies but I don't see him making up for Ruiz's lack of pop. It's not coming from CF. C is doing some of that now, but I don't believe in that long term.
If a Rio/Adonis platoon works, the team could go cheap at third, freeing up some funds that could be used elsewhere. The two most obvious areas of need for next year are third and starting pitching. How Rio/Adonis does and how guys like Newcomb, Sims and Weigel do the rest of this year will determine which area the front office focuses on.
I just don't see anyone worth buying next year....
I think 3B, SS, 2B RF and C are areas. I think a Rio/Adonis Platoon could be ok. If SRod was back and playing like last year I'd feel even better. I think Swanson will hit better. I think Albies will hit, but I still think he's more valuable at SS. For a 2B I'm not sure he'll be a plus hitter. C is good now, but I don't believe in it. Neck is an avg hitter but in a corner I'd like better, esp considering he is not a great defender.
I am likely optimistic but I feel like we should be able to get solid production out of 3 of Newcombe, Sims, Fried, Weigel, Wisler, Blair and mid level vets who may be around. If Weigel and Newcombe are our 4th and 5th starters I think we can be pretty good. Dickey could be the long man.
I think a trade is more likely...for a player w low surplus value to avoid dealing prospectsI just don't see anyone worth buying next year...
Shouldn't this thread be merged with the other Rio thread?

Ruiz has been a .750 OPS guy in AAA. You apply about a 10% haircut to get his major league equivalent and he is in the .650-.700 range. But this is as a regular. If his at bats against lefties are limited, he has a good shot at something in the .700-750 range in the majors.
Hope Ruiz doesn't become a Gregor Blanco type we just trade off because he's not a starter.
Who then goes on to start for multiple championship teams.
