Looks Like Newcomb Will Get The Call

Not a fan personally. love watching him pitch.. but he could go the route of Blair imo. He is not ready yet. on top of that we will now have him on our 40 man roster

Good. I get holding him down for a bit, but it's a spot start if he fails and maybe a long term gig if he succeeds.

Well it's after the June deadline right?

Guess I'd rather he take his bumps in the Majors now in a lost year.

If Newcomb comes up and stays up all year he will likely avoid the super 2 cutoff by a few days. Of course that's in a best case scenario where he keeps a rotation spot.

The future is coming fast.

We will probably soon see: Teheran, Garcia, Medlen, Folty, Newcomb.

lol.
Garcia not gonna be here after this year most likely. Medlen big question mark. Teheran I'd like to see him have some good starts so we can flip him asap.

Let Newc, Sims, Wisler ride it out the rest of the year.

Newk is already so old he is controlled through all of his 20s, so this promotion can't hurt the Braves financially.

No matter how he does, at least it will give us a reason to watch one of the games on Saturday.

With his stuff...he will do ok. He won't be great, but ok. If they keep him in the rotation....he might be doing pretty decent by the end of the year.

I think the idea of rushing a prospect causing irreparable harm is overblown. Usually the player was just never going to make it. For example, I don't buy us rushing Wisler hurt his development. Wisler is a flawed pitcher and the majors exposed that. Leaving him in the minors for another 6 months or a year wasn't going to magically fix what was wrong with him. He'll either figure it out or he wont.

Yeah, I agree. Especially at his age...he controls his walks and he's good. If not...he might not make it. It's not like he's 20....he's old enough to handle it and has pitched plenty in the minors. He would have only gotten and few more starts before the deadline anyway and I think everyone agrees he would have been up then.

If Sims would have not had his last couple of outings, he would have been the guy (since he is already on the 40 man).

I wonder what a package of Sims, Blair and Wisler would get? Maybe some like hitters to take a gamble?

For a glimpse of what to expect, take a look at Tyler Glasnow. He is essentially a RHed version of Newcomb.

I would expect Newcomb to walk 5+ guys per 9, give up a WHIP over 1.5, and generally get destroyed by MLB hitters. A "good" outcome will be a 4+ ERA with everyone still dreaming about "if he can gain some control".

If he averages an ERA lower than that, delete your account.
