MINORS FINAL THURSDAY 6/8 ... Watch the aces deal!

Acuna's BABIP is stating to normalize, and as it drops so is his OPS. A 50 point drop in BABIP has led to a ~100 point drop in OPS, as expected.

Also as expected, his K rate is falling and is down to 22.1% in AA.

Look for him to settle in with a ~.350 BABIP, a K rate under 20%, and an OPS in the ~.850 range. Very impressive for a 19 year old in a very tough AA hitting environment with fringe CF defense (probably plus corner defense at the MLB level).

He compares very well to Eloy (20 years old with a .900 OPS in A+ and less defensive skill) and Robles (20 year old with an .876 OPS in A+ and a better defensive profile). I think those 3 guys are the elite OF prospects in the game right now, with Meadows and Moniak in the tier just below those 3 guys.

If I had to rank them I think I'd go Eloy, Acuna, then Robles. Eloy gets the nod due to the elite power potential and the fact that both he and Acuna will likely be corner OFers when all is said and done.

Yep, the question for Acuna is just how much the power comes. As it stands, I agree that he and Eloy project to provide very similar overall value. Eloy will provide more power, Acuna more defense and base running. If Acuna's power develops further than expected, he will surpass him.

Eloy is just so much bigger than Acuna and already has a substantial raw power advantage that I don't think it's likely. The overall offensive skillset is probably ranked Eloy, Acuna, Robles, with the defense and baserunning value in the exact opposite order.

Acuna's best chance to being more valuable than Eloy is to stick in CF and be average out there, doing his best Cutch impression. Hard to predict the chances of that happening, but the presence of Inciarte makes it rather unlikely. Acuna will most likely settle in as a plus defender in RF for the Braves.

I'm not saying Acuna can catch up to Eloy in the power department, that is certainly unlikely. Just that since people already project Eloy to have power near the top of the charts and he is much less likely to gain speed or defensive ability, Acuna can surpass him in overall value if he gains more power than expected, which is more possible to me than Eloy surpassing current expectations on his tools.

Basically, I think in overall value they are very similar currently but that Acuna has a slightly higher ceiling, though the likelihood is still that they end up being similarly valuable. Even if Acuna is in RF, he will likely play a much better RF than Eloy will.

Yunior Severino and Yenci Pena both played in the DSL today. Interested to see if that's just until GCL starts or not.

Pena played short (made an error) and went 0-4 with a strikeout, Severino played second and went 1-3 with a double, walk and two strikeouts.

Pena and Severino certainly look the part. And only 16 or 17? Mercy.

We could be stacked.

Just a guess on my part, but I think they held off on placing guys until they were sure what the GCL team would look like. Maitain and Vazquez will be in the GCL and we don't know about where Soto will be. Plus, there are couple of holdovers that will probably looking for ABs. I think they want to put guys where they will see the most action. Derrian Cruz will likely be the SS in Danville (unless they move him to the OF), so there's a lot of guys who need to get ABs.

Acuna has plus power. He can hit 25+ homers easily. I think we overrate power in terms of distance and underrate the ability to barrel balls at a high rate. That's what leads to to high homerun totals.

Barreling balls is the hit tool, not the power tool.

Yes and if you have a plus hit tool which Acuna may have someday, you can hit a lot of homeruns. I don't think he takes a backseat to any other offensive prospect in the minors.

Getting some of these guys going in the dsl makes so much sense. There's just wasn't enough at bats for all of those guys plus Maitan, Vasquez, and Cruz in the GCL and the DSL.

Severino was probably the second most hyped prospect we singed last J2.

I'm excited to see Soto start soon as well, apparently he's a good fielder with an idea of how to hit.

They can't really finalize that until some time after the draft, right?
