At this point, I think its obvious we aren't going to have Uggla and BJ Upton in our playoff starting lineup. Two of our highest paid players are two of our worst, yet, we are still one of the best teams in baseball...Amazing.

That's a good thing. There's an article from Mark Bowman on his blog addressing the Upton benching, basically saying he had his chance but there's too much of a need for Gattis and Shaefer

IDC what anybody says, I'd start Uggla over Elliot in the playoffs 7 days out of the week...

I think Fredi wants to try and clinch first, and clinch homefield, then the last week let Uggla and BJ get all the at-bats to try and prove something...

Gattis is going to hit it into the seats... where there's no fans to retrieve the ball. And I'm not even speaking about a homerun.

Fredi (like most managers and coaches in most sports) doesn't like to change his lineup after a win. Still, I'm surprised to see Uggla held out for the second consecutive game. With BJ we've already seen some of this with Schafer during some stretches splitting playing time with him in center. It will be interesting if Fredi does something similar with Uggla and Elliot Johnson.

Elliot Johnson makes Keith Lockhart look like Chase Utley.

You underrate Johnson's talismanic powers. He is a white talisman. Lemke was our last white talisman. They are very rare and very powerful. Sort of on the order of Mew.

Well at least six out of seven. I'm surprised Fredi's not playing his slumping overpaid duo tonight since it appears to be the best chance to get bad pitching. Especially Uggla.

Uggla from the first half was acceptable. Elliot Johnson is actually an improvement over the Uggla we've seen the last couple months.

Uggla OPS during the first half: .738
Uggla OPS so far in the second half: .533

Yes, I see. And I think that it's more likely that Uggla can put together six weeks that are more like 1st-half Uggla than that Elliot Johnson will impersonate a replacement-level MLB 2nd baseman for the same period of time. I respect your opinion. You could be right. I'm just not rushing to hang my hat on the "anyone-but-Uggla" peg.

I think Fredi just has to keep an open mind. Play EJ two or three games a week. Just see who is playing better down the stretch.
