HAPPY 4TH OF JULY! MINORS FINAL TUESDAY ... Danville final added

Isranel Wilson off to a decent start in Danville after having a tough time last season and Derrian Cruz is playing better since being sent down from Rome. The minor league field folks have been very aggressive moving guys up and because of that, I've become more patient with guys who struggle. Cruz was our #1 signing in 2015 (right ahead of Pache in bonus money) so I am certain they are going to give him every opportunity. Wilson's K-rate is no longer in the stratosphere, which is a good thing.

Yep, this is why I like the aggressive promotions. For the guys who can handle it, it is better. For those that aren't ready, you just send them back down and you're still fine. Cruz was awful in Danville last year but looks ready this year and he'll be 18 all year. Nothing wrong with a 19-year-old in Rome, he'll still be on a good trajectory if he plays well there next year, but Pache doesn't get held back.

What kind of deal would you offer Swanson.

I'm not as sold on Swanson as some. But the team is. I'm also not into the escalating salaries. Show him some real money now. 7/60. 5 million the first two years and 10 million the rest. Team options for 15 and 20 after that.

If you think he's going to above a 1 war guy that won't kill u

I'm not sold either...but would be ok with that kind of deal if he has a strong second half

Now is the perfect time to try to extend Swanson. There's obviously risk, but if you wait until he proves himself more, you run the risk of having to pay quite a bit more. His value is likely at its low point right now.

I assume if u are predicting 80 plus wins that albies and acuna are playing next year. Because I don't see how we get a 3b that good.

Just Albies after spending a 2-3 weeks in AAA to start the season. Here are the Braves current WAR ranks by positions:

C - 4th (2.2)

1B - 3rd (3.5)

2B - 25th (0.5)

SS - 22nd (0.2)

3B - 27th (-0.4)

RF - 24th (0.1)

CF - 13th (2.2)

LF - 27th (0.0)

SP - 28th (2.0)

BP 24th (0.7)

That team is a true talent 75-80 win team right now.

Albies should be able to add ~2 wins to 2B next year. Any MLB-quality guy at 3B should be able to add another 2 wins next year. I fully expect Swanson to improve by at least 1 win. I expect Teheran to bounce back, and a rotation of Folty, Newk, Teheran, Dickey and a young guy to be markedly better than the current rotation..probably 2-3 wins better. That's 7-8 additional wins.

C will probably fall back by 1-2 wins, but the rest of the roster will most likely hold steady. That leave them with 5-7 wins of improvement for 2018.

I am confident this team can win go from 75-80 wins this year to 80-85 wins next year simply by adding a competent third baseman, and allowing the rest of the roster to improve organically.

That's how rebuilds work when they aren't rushed.

That seems reasonable. Frazier is the only option i can see. I don't think they'll sign Moose and have to give up a pick. I don't think they'll actually get Prado.

I'm not in favor of the big deal for Donaldson for a year, nor do I think the Jays will trade him.

Albies would be doing extraordinarily well to better BP's season at the plate, so I would imagine you think he's going to be a big dWAR upgrade? OR do you think he's going to be better at the plate as well?

I'm not sure a third round pick should really get in the way of a big signing at this point, but I don't really see them being the winner in that derby anyway.

The other thought exercise is what would happen if FF is only Adonis terrible at 3B? Would the staff be smart enough to force Kemp to 1B?

Saw a tweet from Bradford Dootlittle on the Braves ESPN page that said the aggregate OPS for NL first basemen this season is .880. For third basemen, it's .770. That would mean WAR from 1B would go way down and be bottom half of the league. But it would open up LF for some improvement. I still think D Peterson is going to be a 1-2 WAR LF. So maybe the question is can you find a 3B for a price you like that is worth more than 1 WAR.

I wouldn't be opposed to giving Camargo a shot at 3B, hopefully starting this year after we trade Adams. He's very good defensively and has at least some hope of being passable offensively. I don't have any illusions that he's going to be a long-term answer there, but I think he could fill in admirably for a year or so if we can't find the right fit through FA or trade.

There's a chance Camargo can do that. If he can sustain a .700ish OPS (no guarantee there), he probably would give us that.

Albies is a 20 year old with a .781 OPS in AAA after a horridly slow start coming back from a broken elbow.

BP is posting a .762 OPS at the MLB level. I am not overly confident Albies could post a .750+ OPS next year, but I certainly wouldn't bet against it.

Clay Davenport projects Albies 50th percentile age 21 MLB season to be .280/.340/.404 (.744 OPS) in 2018 if he were at the MLB level right now. He projects his 2018 WAR to be 3.2.

Albies will significantly improve this team in 2018. He is better than Swanson.

We are now watching video of flyouts?!? yikes..

Haha yikes indeed.

My first comment is that the poster should have cropped the first 30 seconds of that video.

My second comment is that I don't like the bat wrap I saw from Maitan on that swing. That looks new, I don't remember seeing it before.
