Keith Law's Midseason Top 50 Update

Don't get the bearish ranking on Albies. Guy is showing power at 20 and has proved to have a top hit tool.

Based on how Acuna has been tearing it up for over a calendar year, I find it hard to believe that there are 8 players in front of him.

Does anyone think these mid season lists were completed about June 1st? Because its really difficult for me to justify moving Ozzie down to the 30's, when all he has done was show more power than previous years, and rip the cover off the ball in AAA in June\July.

Also- seemingly discounting coming off an pretty significant injury.

Acuna cooled off? I guess, but hell the kid is hitting .375 with 3 HR over his last 10 games and hit .326 with 9 HR in AA.

7 top 50 prospects is crazy. On average each team should have about 1.5 prospects in the top 50. Round it up and say a mid ranked farm system would have 2 top 50 prospects.

Yeah. I think the Albies rankings reflect a disproportionate reaction to how he was hitting in April and fail to fully take into account his performance in June and July.

Al ot of these lists are what have you done for me lately. They get caught up in someone's hot first half of the season (particularly if they are power hitters) and drop Albies even though he's been holding his own as the youngest player a nearly every level. Glove, bb/k ratio, Sb, average are often overlooked for guys who can hit for power. It's almost like most of these lists are fantasy related. You should see how far JP Crawford, Lucas Giolito, and Jorge Mateo have fallen. Most of the time it's completely off the list.

Yup, cannot understand the Albies fall. If anything, I feel more encouraged by his year. Weird. Anderson and Gohara getting love is nice, though.

Soroka should be ahead of both Anderson/Gohara.

I know Klaw has never been his biggest fan, but his stuff is better than people give him credit for, and he's got it between the ears. What he's doing at AA is really really amazing.

imo Soroka is our top pitching prospect

Yeah, Law's reasoning for the lower Soroka ranking was that he doesn't love the arm action.

System is so loaded.

Its #1 by leaps and bounds and Coppy deserves quite a bit of credit for that.

Even after that first group, there's another wave behind them.

How about Gohara? Is it possible he is our highest upside pitcher?

Certainly possible that he is.

I think highest realistic upside is either Wright, Allard, Gohara...... people will say Touki but I just don't see it very realistic he can reach his ceiling. I'm started to consider him a future bullpen arm; and he could be lights out in that role.

Probably highest ceiling in comparison with his floor. I've heard people say he has TOR stuff, and others say he could be destined for the bullpen. Quite a wide spectrum there haha

I think it's all coming down to that third pitch. Get a respectable changeup and we could be in for something really exciting with him.

I like Gohara as well and believe it was a steal of a trade. I also believe he could be a good sell high candidate when we do go for a controllable starter either this month or in the offseason.

Gohara, Pache, and Bryse have all jumped up in a lot of people's eyes this year and that's usually the best time to trade them.
