Official 2017 Trade Deadilne Thread

Acquiring Stanton - even if you were able to unload Kemp's short-term money - would mean there wouldn't be money to extend Swanson, Albies, Acuna, Freeman (in the event they could tack on an extra two or three years to his deal at this point), or any of the arms.

No one other than big market clubs can afford to swallow that contract without crippling themselves IMO.

If you knew he'd opt out it might be worth talking about, but no club can really afford to commit to paying a player 32m in 2025.

Other than Gray, there isnt really anyone THAT available and we havent been linked to him.

It would be a big mistake though.

We have been linked to Gray. We've been scouting his starts according to an A's beat writer, and DOB has said we've considered him.

From a number of rumored returns, I really believe an Anderson and Pache or Anderson/Pache/Wisler or Blair would get it done. That would not be a mistake.

I've read about fans interested in Machado, but we could have our own Machado in Matian in 3 years, depending on how aggressive we are with him. I'd rather sign a guy like Frazier to a 3 year deal. He could serve as the token RH pop and clubhouse leader we're set on having. That would allow us to trade Kemp and Nick, while solidifying 3B til Matian is ready.

I'd do that for Gray if thats what it cost.

Wouldnt hurt our farm system that much.

Or you just stick harper in LF for the next 10 years.

The A's do line up. They have 6 guys capable of manning 2B next year. They'd have no interest in Albies, which is good for us. They'd want Acuna, but that ain't happening.

They would want Pache for sure. The rumor is they like Camargo as well. They also need some pitching since they're infield heavy in prospects.

They're a small market team who needs to buy low and win to stay relevant. Wisler or Blair could intrigue them more than most teams.

They seem to like Baretto and Chapman the most which means Semien should be traded. He should be a 3B at this point.

So, we should be going after either Gray and Semien or even Semien alone.

I'm not big on Harper as a person and I believe he's gonna want to go to a big market team for marketability reasons. However, if we could make it work I'd love Harper. RF is one of the hardest positions to fill and one that I'd overpay to fill. We also seem to be leaning more towards the money of baseball. You can see it at the battery. We're going trendy all the way. Harper helps out big time in that area.

I dont see us making a play for Harper. Depending what the makeup of the team looks like, we should have enough money to be in play for a big name that winter.

The finances are looking a lot better right now. I could see payroll in the 140-150 range if trends continue.

Lol are we really going to blabber about the Braves signing someone like Harper or Machado again?

How many times are you going to say the same incorrect thing about the same fantasy scenario?

It's literally the exact same foolish statement over and over and over.

Just don't see that getting it done personally, but what do any of us know?

If it would, I certainly wouldn't hesitate to ask what expanding a deal to include Semien would cost. He could be that sneaky kind of bridge to Maitan. Not sure he'd be a worse option than Frazier - especially given the money.

Frazier for 3 years would be good...i think more likely he gets 5 years...no interest in that

Susan Slusser reported that there were scouts from five teams at Gray's start last night. We weren't mentioned as one of them.

MLBTR has their FA power rankings, and Frazier isn't mentioned in the Top 10. The guys at the end of the list don't figure to be getting 5 year deals.

Frazier likely gets 3 years plus an option, and whichever team is willing to guarantee 4 years wins the bidding. Even at 4 years he fits the Maitan timeline.

Todd Frazier would be my #1 priority this offseason now that Lucroy has fallen off. If we didn't learn our lesson about old catchers yet, Lucroy should be the final lesson we need.

Assuming Frazier is a 3.5 win guy right now, and the typical post-30 aging curve, we can project Frazier to produce about 9 wins over the next 4 years. At $10m per win, that's a 4/90 deal to solve 3b at the beginning of the Braves competitive window.

And no, he won't be giving a discount because he's a Braves fan or likes to scout prospects.

One thing people miss is that even if the Braves payroll does go up to that amount (I think it will), it's only going to be keeping up with inflation. STP and the Battery aren't going to magically turn the Braves into a big market, big spender franchise. Atlanta will always be stuck hopelessly in the middle in terms of payroll, maybe moving up or down a spot or two from year to year.

It's been that way since MLB and Time Warner hosed us by killing the TBS deal. Very few Braves fans under 30 even remember the days of nationally-televised games every evening at 6:35 CDT. Any financial gains made due to the stadium, renegotiating the TV deal, etc. are going to be overcome by the fact that the Braves will steadily lose market share as the TBS fans age out of the market.
