WEDNESDAY MINORS FINAL 7/19 ... Belatedly

Lost in Riley's mediocre results in Florida is that his K rate dropped quite a bit. The walk rate also dipped, and he didn't have quite the power he showed in Rome, but that is a very positive sign IMO, and it lines up with reports that his bat speed isn't the concern it was. It has also continued so far in a very SS in Mississippi. If he can sustain his K rate at around 20%, that is massive for him, as I think the power will ultimately be there, at least above-average.

This may be why they felt comfortable moving him up.

To me, the big number with Riley is 20; his age. They are clearly promoting guys aggressively (perhaps too aggressively), but Riley has held his own this season. Low walk rate raises some red flags, but it's not that much lower than it was in Rome. Cutting down on Ks could prove big for him if he can use it as a base for getting his power numbers back up.

Barring a meltdown of significant proportions, it's getting tougher and tougher to see a 2018 rotation that doesn't have Soroka in it IMO. You can make the argument that he needs to be bumped to Gwinnett today.

I'd be surprised if he's in the minors all year next year. I don't necessarily agree with it. The again, Sims hasn't gotten a call yet and has been pitching well in AAA all year. So maybe Soroka will get that whole year. Soroka is clearly better though.

No, I can't make an argument for him to be in AAA now. And Yes, I can envision a rotation with out him in it. Sept call up.. we can talk after next August.
