Suzuki... 6 homers in last 8 starts

We can't develop young catchers, but we can really get the best out of 30-year-old (and older) catchers

I liked the signing and couldn't understand the barking about it (and a number of folks barked about it). I never envisioned this level of hitting, but Suzuki is a decent back-up at a very reasonable price. He's no defensive whiz, but for $1.5 million he's turned out to be a pretty good deal.

You must have missed the 20 years of young, all-star catchers behind the plate.

Lopez > Estrada > McCann > Gattis.

Flowers came up through our system too.

You're right. We must also be great at developing 3B since we had Chipper. (Although we have clearly found a new way to develop star 3B, just have them be a 1B their whole career first)

Well the Braves do have 2 of the top 5 3B of all time. Going to be 3 when Maitan's career is over.

We develop young catchers. Just once like every decade. Lol. Javy came around in the mid 90's. McCann around in the mid 2000's

I wouldn't really put Estrada on that list...One, because he wasn't really "ours" as most of his developing was in the Phillies organization. Two, b/c he only had like 3 or 4 good seasons and has been outta the league for a decade.

Gattis, he can hit that long ball. But has never been an elite all star type like Javy and McCann.

We need to get someone cooking though. Flowers and Suzuki ain't gonna last that long.

Lopez, McCann, Salty, Flowers, Perez to a lesser degree Gattis, Bethancourt, Pena

Going way back, the Braves also drafted a bunch of catchers pretty high and had trouble getting them into the bigs. Catching is such a tough position and it's really hard to gauge which prospects are going to be able to handle the position both offensively and defensively at the major league level. I don't know if the Braves do better or worse in the long run on that score than other organizations. No question both Lopez and McCann were great for us (although Maddux didn't think much of Javy's work behind the plate).
