Adrian Beltre.... 3,000 hits

Arizona Fall Leaguer
Congrats to the dude.

I'm always looking over different player's (past and present) numbers and careers and.... I noticed last year he was knocking on the door of 3,000 hits and not too far away from 500 homers.

When ya talk about the greatest players of the last 20 years, his name NEVER comes up. He kinda sneaks up on ya.

But he's been very consistent over his career. Props

Chipper should be a part of that club, Beltre getting 3 k will put him ahead of Chipper in a lot of minds.

Eh, depends on who values what. Part of what makes the greatest the greatest is also longevity. Beltre has managed to stay in the lineup in his 30's as much as in his 20's. Unfortunately when Chipper hit his 30's, he became somewhat injury prone which kept him from the 3,000, 500 homer marks. Still a HOF career nonetheless. It is what it is. It makes Beltre being able to weather the storm that much more admirable.

Chipper was easily still the better hitter overall when compared to Beltre, although not as good a glove.

Amazing stat I just heard on Baseball Tonight . . .

The only player to have more career starts at 3B is Brooks Robinson.

Yet Chipper got on base more than 500 more times than Beltre in about 1000 fewer plate appearances. Chipper had a career OBP of over .400 while Beltre is in the .330s.

Chipper was the better player.

Larry is easily top 3-5 all-time at his position. Beltre is right there in a group behind him, IMO.

I'm just tired of hearing the "Most by a player whose Primary Position was 3B" for Chipper. Everyone who followed baseball knows he's a 3B. He spent 2.25 years in the outfield but when it's said and done he's a 3B.

I don't know anyone who says that. Most of the top 3B have spent some time at other positions. Beltre is a rare case who hasn't. He likely will end up #1 in games played and innings among all 3B which is impressive. He's not the hitter Chipper is but he has a legit argument as being the best defensive 3B ever.

1st Dominican with 3000 hits.

Beltre is the 5th player to join the club who was born outside the United States.

He joins Roberto Clemente (Puerto Rico), Rafael Palmeiro (Cuba), Ichiro Suzuki (Japan), and Rod Carew (Panama).

Crazy to remember now, but Adrian Beltre was considered a disappointment early in career with #Dodgers. .262, .748 OPS 98-03

patience, y'all

Indeed. Beltre didn't start taking off offensively until he was 25 years old and then he hit FA. Hopefully that doesn't happen to any of our super prospects.

Yea, I've never heard anyone say that about Chipper. Everyone knows he's a 3rd basemen. He did what he did for the team. Just like I'm sure if the Braves wanted to bring in a big time FA who's position is first, Freddie would be more than willing to play at 3rd full time, even though in our head, he be a 1st baseman.
